I'm going to build a big trap so the can come out for a look round mate no room for an aviary
how old will the be when they would be able to fly from the loft floor to say the perch or even the the Trap

5 weeks on average by 7 weeks we have them out and about but like I said just take your time mate get them responding to feed call

@tony you will mate just take everything slowly get to know the birds and keeping control of general health and grow from there look at it as a 5 year plan so results don't matter until year 5 and if you look at it like that you will do well, most importantly just enjoy having them mate

Yes will do Danny, there coming to me at different times during august first lot should be with me during next week, then two more kits the following week. I have been offered some stock pigeons so looking in to taking a few of them to breed from so there's no pressure on the late bred birds.

Hi Tony great to see you starting up, I just want to alert you, when you start a new loft, and you bring in Y/Birds from 2 or 3 different sources, sometimes their health can take a dip, it won't be anything you are doing, it's just the birds coming from different lofts, and bringing with them different levels of ( for want of a better word ) Bacteria, and just needs watching. Its something that sometimes happens when you introduce different birds, and you will soon get a handle on all these small things.

Thanks Albert, is there something I should give the Y/Bs say in their water to try and help them settle in

Well said @albert I was brief earlier as at work but absolutely make you know if the kits are vaccinated also and what with we use a rota and pmv 2 in 1 but at least you want them to of had the pmv and yes Albert is 100% correct I would monitor and anything you see that makes you think something is wrong ask us everyone here to help

I'm going to have to agree with this advice!

Remember racing pigeons are a prey species, this means that when they are ill they are excellent at hiding the problem until it's overwhelming them! They don't want to look weak to a potential predator!

So the moment you have a second of doubt about a bird, separate it and ask the question!

They can go from looking fantastic to 10mins from dead very quickly!
