Winers bread winers

Sadies Lofts home of decent birds just a useless loft manager, and now a confirmed loser but proud

Wouldn’t have done it any harm Chris. It would have learnt a lot. You’re unlikely to lose that one before racing now.Chris1978 wrote: Mon Jul 20, 2026 9:37 pm I got one back this evening like pice paper flew out happy she's back little hen
That's true.king wrote: Mon Jul 20, 2026 2:08 pm100% Leon. Good pigeons just are MORE LIKELY to produce good pigeons. Top stock birds like 'Drum' have bred 100s of offspring. But I'll bet nobody could name 10 good birds it's bred?Spieker-Loft wrote: Mon Jul 20, 2026 12:04 pm Bird of prey can always take your best bird. Specially with youngbirds if you get them going around the house and bird of prey attacks more often then not you actually loose more then 1 bird just because of the pure fear they spread everywhere and just fly in 1 direction without thinking how to get back home.
But i can most certainly tell you that winners do not automatically breed winners then the sport would also be to easy. For me there is huge differences between a good racer and a good breeder. We have 3rd ace pigeon of the state westfalia in our loft he won
3x1st on different races against an average of 3200p also won 2nd vs 14.777p 13th vs 9275p and 13th vs 10665p and many more top prizes. This bird is now 10 years old and has bred nothing.
If the stock birds you got are new and this is their first year breeding and the birds are gone i wouldnt stress it yet. But if this happens 2-3 years in a row id get gone of them.
You hear of pairs breeding winners in every nest, but I never met a fancier who could back up that claim.
I've got a pair that leaves lot's of "good" pigeons, they are always on the results in lofts all over the place. Very honest and consistent, and are hard to lose. But if I'm honest only two of them have won a race. As in first place. Mind you one was first from 50 miles and it's nest mate was first from 300 miles and went 500 miles. So they are pretty versatile.
But you would be kidding yourself to call them a "Golden pair", or "Super Breeders"
It's easy to get your head up in the clouds.

Well done chris, the little hen has had a eduacation on her travels. But she made it home mate, just keep an eye on her. Keep us informed how she is doing Chris.Chris1978 wrote: Mon Jul 20, 2026 9:37 pm I got one back this evening like pice paper flew out happy she's back little hen

I've spent as much as 13k for a breeder and as little as £350! I breed a lot of birds in the course of my job at a stud I can confirm that no matter the price it guarantees nothing! Genetics are funny things and something that really interests me! From my experience winners breeding with winners certainly works but the numbers you need to produce and test to find the 2 at best that mimic the birds ability is massive, there really is no short cuts buy good genetic base breeders and test test test the offspring you also have to be ruthless in selection
I am also very interested in genetics.Rdhd Danny wrote: Thu Jul 23, 2026 3:36 pm I've spent as much as 13k for a breeder and as little as £350!
