I might even start a YouTube channel to document what I’m up to, where I’m going from here, and everything I build along the way.
Anyway, as most of you know, I raced pigeons back in roughly 2014–2017 and have been out of the hobby ever since.
Many of you will have seen that I went to collect a lost pigeon. Of course, I ended up keeping it because the owner couldn’t afford to have it collected, and it had been lost off the top of his loft.
So, I went out and bought it a rabbit cage to live in while I ordered an 8x6 shed, which I’m going to convert into a stock loft.
Then someone got in touch to say one of the local fanciers was packing up and asked if I wanted some birds. Well... I couldn’t say no!
I’m really hoping the shed turns up soon. Hopefully, I’ll have it built and fully kitted out by the end of August.
The plan is to fit a small aviary on the front, with standard window hood boxes inside. I’ll also be adding ventilation along the bottom and removing a board along the top to allow plenty of airflow.
I’ve added some photos of the birds I picked up. Most of them came through the channel, and I don’t know their pedigrees or racing results, but it’s a great start back into the hobby. If I’m still racing in two or three years, I can always upgrade to better birds.
For now, I’m just looking forward to getting everything set up and enjoying being back in the sport.
