A question for you

My questions as a total beginner of no pigeons but due to get around 26 late breds from 4 people.
1. what feed should I be giving these Y/Bs once I get them
2. how much food should they be given, and in one sitting or Two.
3. should the floor just be wood for scraping or a deep litter.
4. should I fit perches or boxes for these Y/Bs
5. how old should they be, to put them through their moult and what is the best way to do this and for how long.
Look forward to all the different answers from you all.

1. Something heavy. after weaning i always give my yb's for several months the same mixture i feed the breeders. They need it for the growth.
2. I always feed my birds that are not the racers full but step by step. I throw a pot of feed in and if they finish it they get more until they are done.
3. This really is just up to yourself. We just have wood flor and scrape them but we also used to use a certain type of straw that is really heavy and stays on the floor and we didnt clean the loft for 6 months and renew it every half year.
4. I would 100% say perches and only get boxes once they are ready for breeding.
5. Your late breeds probaly wont moult all the way through but they will start instantly anyways. Its a natural process so this isin't something you have to worry about

Are you intending to fly these out once you get them or keep as prisoners bird. If your going to let them out I would get them out as soon as you can, not sure if you have a trap.
You could start them off by opening the loft door every day so they get used to going in or out with a light feed back in of diat or something like that so they get used to a routine/ or place them on the landing board of the trap they'll work it out & usually run back in via the trap, do this to build confidence jobs a good un.
Feed once a day at the same time if you can( routine) I'd go with 28grm each of a light feed.
Depending on what flooring you have I'd go for scrapping out, I wouldn't go for deep litter it gets very dusty at times.
V perches probably easier but plenty to choose from depending on what size your sections are .
The moult well they may well carry over nest flights next year, I've bred late last year & some still have baby flights . Others will probably have a better understanding about how best to achieve this.
Just 1 other thing I'm not sure about Tony how old are these yb going to be if you get them & most have yellow down feathers on there head your good to go, if they aren't & they are a lot stronger/ bigger then they might be a little strong omo, hope this helps just try & be consistent in what your doing everyday I'm sure you'll learn as you go along.

well it looks like V Perches and just wooden floor for scraping from what you both have said.
I'm not to sure on all there ages as they are coming from a couple of different fanciers but they won't be to old

yes it would be good to hear from others on the site, everyone does things different so hopefully there will be a few more to come forward, unless the don't want to give their trick of the trades away

I would just feed a good all round mix. You’re obviously not going to race them this year.
I feed twice a day every day apart from during the winter months when it’s dark in the evenings. I feed as much as they want and take away anything left once they are going to the drinkers. If I had time I would feed them by hand rather than in a trough, but I don’t.
I to would just leave the floor as wood and scrape twice a day before feeding.
I would go for box perches and nice deep ones, 10”” or 11”, makes it much easier to control and catch the birds as they will tend to go back into the box instead of trying to fly out.

No it’s quite possible that they won’t moult right through as youngsters. I have been racing a late bred still carrying 4 nest flights.
