A question for you

Since coming back on the site, I see we have a few members just getting into the sport. Or they are in the sport, but not doing to good and need to gain more knowledge of the sport.
So the question is, how can other members help you? Just remember there are no rights or wrongs, when you ask a question. It's all about working together, to help others in the sport

For me, I've a background in horse racing and racing pigeons in two countries with totally different systems. So my outlook is somewhat different.
That does tend to put people off.
Outside the square scares some people.

There are no right and wrongs in asking a question but there certainly are right and wrongs in a reply to a question. I'm talking about if someone is getting into the sport to actually win or excel at a chosen distance then a new starter should be listening to people who actually compete, win and have the results to back up what they are saying. Folk give advice with the best intentions but all this 'it works for me' nonsense is just that if it doesn't actually produce results. Far better listening to someone who is brutal with ya and tells you what you need to hear than someone who is sugar coating shit. That's my opinion anyway.

I think reading and asking questions are great, and ofcourse everyone’s day to day life’s are also different. So you do have to work on what you feel is working only you are with your birds daily. You have to learn how to understand your pigeons and see if there unwell or eating correct ? Tbh just because a top fancier is winning dosnt mean what he’s doing will work for you but also with that said his understanding and knowledge dose help greatly

Goose 1 This topic is for new starters, or members that may need some help. In different parts of the sport. So this gives the oppertunity for them to ask a question, and gain knowledge from the advice given.
If it helps others, well that is all fine to me.

For me, you all know my passion is distance flying
but there aren't any other distance flyers on here that
are active or that have been active recently so I have no-one to bounce ideas off or to ask questions of.
When I did ask questions I was almost ridiculed by some members on here -so I didn't bother asking.
I got it wrong again this year for the 5th or 6th year running and each time I have to more or less start the 3 year cycle again and I am probably further away from my dream than ever.
But hey -ho, I am learning and know where I have made mistakes so I will have another go next year.
I do get a lot out of others posts and comments and sift through it all and like Murray says, I 'glean' what I can from all the subjects and apply it where its appropriate to me and my goals.
I am looking forward to following Leon on his new journey to fly Barcelona as he flies a similar distance to me.

My questions as a total beginner of no pigeons but due to get around 26 late breds from 4 people.
1. what feed should I be giving these Y/Bs once I get them
2. how much food should they be given, and in one sitting or Two.
3. should the floor just be wood for scraping or a deep litter.
4. should I fit perches or boxes for these Y/Bs
5. how old should they be, to put them through their moult and what is the best way to do this and for how long.
