We’ve had the shop for 22 years and work 6 days a week, that was after 25+ years farming, working 7 days a week most of the time, so really looking forward to retirement. Haven’t had a holiday in over 20 years.

Hopefully we will sell within the next year. Then we will move and retire. I will then have more time to spend with the pigeons. At present I only get about an hour a day max.
You can only put in what ever time you have to spar Andy, think we all wish we had more time for the sport mate.
Good luck selling up and retirement when it comes along.
Will you be moving and having to set up again with your birds.
Yes I will be moving Tony. But will still be in the radius of the 3 counties, which is a very large radius, it covers all of Cornwall, Devon and most of Somerset. I will probably still also stay with the same club/marking station at Glastonbury.
I will take one loft with me but will also look to purchase a new loft as well.
so not a total change for you and the birds Andy at least things will feel familiar being at the same club.
Hopefully the birds will settle in their new home and breed you some nice quality Y/Bs for you to start racing to the new loft.

Good luck with it all Andy. I retired last year but don't seem to get any more time for the birds.

I’m hoping to get somewhere with a large garden and even a small paddock if possible. I’m not planning on sitting back and doing nothing. Just wanting to have time to do what I want rather than keeping customers happy like I have for many years now.
Not sure how long it will take to sell the shop though. We own it freehold with the 3 bedroom flat and garden above and behind. We do have someone who is interested but it could take a while. We are just doing some work on the property, including a new roof, it is two hundred years old, then we will look to put it on the market.

as long as you get the room for your new loft and be able to race your birds Andy.
Will it knock you back moving the birds, will you have to start again just using the birds you have for breeding as you won't be able to let them fly out will you.
will you be able to take all your birds in the move or will you be down sizing Andy.

It will temporarily set me back a bit but hopefully only briefly. I would try to break the birds to a new loft. Yes I will take all my birds but I don’t keep a big team. If anything I will be keeping more rather than downsizing as I’ll have more time to look after them.
