This is a subject that will happen to us all, so try and be ready for it. I turned 70 years of age 3 weeks ago, and i must say i feel i have had 70 good years. I have different memories from the sports i took part in, places i had the chance to visit. My family growning up, and the friends i have and lost. Make every day the best one, I have my wife Maria, she was diagnosed with Vasculair Dementia 3 years ago. So she does not have those memories, just remember how lucky we are, and enjoy everyday that we have left. Only you can make it happen. So let us all enjoy the sport, share information with other members. Helping each other, and prolonging the sport keep it going for many years to come.

Sorry to hear Mate, I just want all the members to enjoy the site. Sharing good topics, and getting inolved. This is a sport that we all want for it to continue, along with the site. And only us can make it happen.

70 Devo, all the very best to you mate.
How long did you keep the birds and raced them.
You must have seen many changers in the sport good and bad I bet.

I was with the birds when i was younger Tony, I topped the liverpool amal Hereford 2 young bird race 7200 birds. Not long after i went to work in Germany on the black stuff. Later i started working in the pub game, i had shares in horses and i raced Greyhounds. It was only when returned to Halewood, i started with birds again. It is a sport were if you dont put it in, you wont take anything out. Its all about giving all no matter what time of the day. It is paramount the birds health is so impotant, for them to show there true ability. The sad thing about the sport, is other flyers sometimes give the respect to others. To me its all about taking part to keep the sport going. If that happens we are all winners.

I’m getting on too. I’m 64 in a couple of months. We are getting things sorted out in preparation for selling our shop and flat above. Hopefully we will sell within the next year. Then we will move and retire. I will then have more time to spend with the pigeons. At present I only get about an hour a day max.

Looks like you did well with your birds mate over the years.
As you pointed out it the thing of trying to keep the sport going and if we could get some of the younger people to join in the sport might have more of a chance.
I understand that the more you put in the better your birds and results but if your working 5 days a week it must be hard for people to be able to compete against others who have more time on their hands with the birds.
I'm 60 next May but i'm looking to get birds in later this year to start next year hopefully that's my goal and hopefully i can get the grandson's involved.

You can only put in what ever time you have to spar Andy, think we all wish we had more time for the sport mate.
Good luck selling up and retirement when it comes along.
Will you be moving and having to set up again with your birds.

Yes I will be moving Tony. But will still be in the radius of the 3 counties, which is a very large radius, it covers all of Cornwall, Devon and most of Somerset. I will probably still also stay with the same club/marking station at Glastonbury.
I will take one loft with me but will also look to purchase a new loft as well.
