I think the vast majority of fanciers have at some time competed against fanciers that didn't work. That's nothing a working man can avoid. When I first raced not only was I working, I was working 3 shifts so had to change my system EVERY week. I missed many races, and positions due to holdovers ect.(i had to use holidays to mark & send the birds in the Nationals) But you do the best you can. For a time I worked 12 hour shifts and that was near impossible to race. When I married WORK came first, pigeons were a hobby to unwind at weekends, prize cards were a bonus.
I'd give extra praise to fanciers that worked who got out of bed at dawn to train, before going to work. Myself I never did. If I got up at 5am it was for work. I watched a lot of fanciers retire, only to see their performances get worse. Some changed from working & winning to retirement and losing. They spent too much time with the birds.
Your flying well Neil working, your time will come when you retire, and somebody else will moan that you don't work. ;)

I fly my best when I'm working, if I'm at home I'm a nuisance because I can't sit still ,when I work everything is rigid with what a do.

Not working is a massive advantage early season to loft fly before the clocks change or when we are still coming out of winter
Then again picking the best weather to train your ybs
Being at work all day when others get the best of the weather then sat in traffic coming home with the weather changing knowing your competition has trained or loft flown
There no way not working is a disadvantage
I understand what ya saying because covid Yr was brilliant for me lol
I'm not the type of fanicer that changes feed times trains different times if I can't go at my set time I don't go ,,

Only did 1 last year
Of the 6 races I have won 3this year 3are with yearling including 343 miles Saturday

Year before I did 4 or 5 only lost 1 in the club against darkness pigeons
2 fed wins

But normally your right 4 does me even 3

They do get about 35 trainers to 22 miles but mostly about 16 miles trained to chase each basket
Not sure about that this year with the peregrines getting worse
I missed out last year, forgot about that 1, time goes by so quick.

I honestly think if there well trained and raced once the best will be the best the crap will still be crap
I agree the baby's u lose first 2 races will be the yearlings u lose first 2 races if u don't race them as baby's, I think its simple cream rises n dirt sinks ,I hear late bred can't race but I learned how to race em ,,its patience that's all.
