I have been looking at a lot of the eyes on Pipa lately and reading some old pictorials of an eyesign expert back in the day called David Bending.
I cant tell you anything about the eyesign (yet) but I'm pretty sure that David Bendings first observation would be about the cere on the 2nd eye and he might suggest that the bird may have had some sort of illness as a yb.
I'd like to know your thoughts on that too Andy if you wouldnt mind.

If you wouldnt mind Andy and Devo, could I ask that you post your conversations on this thread rather than via pm so I can get a chance to hear Andys views.
Just hope we dont get the knockers looking in - the "wouldnt bother as long as it has two" brigade!!

I'm a non-believer in eye sign Dave, but I wouldn't call myself a 'knocker'? so I won't use the above phase, which is ironically actually paramount in a Racing pigeon. But I will say, a good pigeon cannot have bad coloured eyes.Diamond Dave wrote: Fri Feb 28, 2025 12:30 pm If you wouldnt mind Andy and Devo, could I ask that you post your conversations on this thread rather than via pm so I can get a chance to hear Andys views.

Andy, I appreciate that the iris in both eyes are very full with the 2nd eye almost to the brim. Can you tell me what is the likely cause of that. It has obviously come from the sire and dam but what could've/should've been done to prevent them being so full.

Andy, is the " room" that you refer to on the outside of the iris or the inside or can it be both?

Thanks Andy, that is v3ry helpful.
I would like to 'catalogue' the eyes of all my birds, just for my own reference.
Can you tell me if there is any easy way to take a reasonable photo of the the eye with an ordinary smart phone?

Andy, apart from the room in the iris and a wide inner circle is there anything else to look for that would determine an exceptional breeder from a mediocre one.?
You mentioned "good serration" to the inner circle, does this have any bearing on the breeding capabilities?

Thank you Andy. Very kind of you to share all of that knowledge and experience - it is very much appreciated.

One more question if I can Andy - so presumably you only really need 1 of the pair to have the "room" in the eye to take what could be a fuller eye from its partner.
- Is it any benefit for the roomy eye to be that of the cock or hen?
