I was fine when I got up this morning. Had my usual shower before letting the birds out. Then came in for some breakfast. After breakfast went back up to the loft to scrape out and feed them before going to work. Cleaned the old bird loft fine. Then cleaned the young bird loft out. When coming out of the loft I stepped down onto the step and heard a pop. Didn’t think much to start with but as I continued to feed the birds my ankle started to hurt. By the time I had finished feeding, put the Guinea pigs out and a couple of other jobs I was struggling to walk. My ankle had swollen right up and I couldn’t put any wait on it. I hobbled around and opened up the shop. I had taken some ibuprofen which had seemed to ease it a bit. But a couple of hours later after serving customers and walking up and down the shop I sat down at the computer to do some paper work. Roxanna called me to help a customer out. As I stood up I was in real pain. I couldn’t put any weight on it at all. After a couple of phone calls my brother in law picked me up and took me to A&E. When we got there 2 nurses had to wheel me in. After an examination and X-ray I was told that I had sprained my ankle tearing the ligaments. The X-ray did show that the 3 screws I had put in my foot in an operation years ago were still in place and doing there job lol. I now have to take it easy for the next 4/6 weeks while it heals. Fact chance lol. I’m not one to be idol. I can’t believe how painful a sprain is. They do reckon that it’s more painful than a break.
The hospital were very good though and in all I was in and out in less than 3 hours.
Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.

That's a nuisance, Andy.
Yes, sprained ankles are very painful. You will be a bit slow for a few days.
Take care.

Not nice Andy, as you say sprains and dislocations are often more painful than a break and can longer to heal properly too !! So try to follow doctors orders and hopefully it will feel better soon 🤞😁

Badly bruised there Andy that in itself will be painful, have you tried some cold and hot foot baths that will help

That's good, Andy, the swelling and bruising means it's healing.
I am a big fan of pain, it's your body's way of making you stop and letting it heal up.
When I was a jockey I of course had some serious injuries. When I was young I rode in races with broken ribs once :o because I was determined not to miss out on good rides at a big meeting.
I don't like Ice or heat on injuries, I think you are better to let the body deal with it. I do, however, like pain killers. 24 or 48 hours of strong pain relief can get you through the worst bit. I mean strong pain relief. Not 2 Panadol. Giving a couple of paracetamol to someone with a fracture is terrible.
