Talk about anything racing pigeon related here aslong as there isnt a section for it.

Going back a number of years, after a few trips Europe. At that time, i was looking for the next big player in the racing pigeon sport. So studying from the results, i was looking for the flyer under the radar. The name that was there, week in week out, not the winner but the flyer that was in 5th or 6th place. Just off the pace of the winner, but always knocking. If i could have carried on in the sport, i really think this could have worked. Buying a kit or two and testing them in the UK. Now i know there is already some relly good flyers in the UK, but this was my thoughts at the time. Always looking for the next kit of youngsters, to improve the blood in the loft.

Now you can agree, or disagree. But it would be good to hear other peoples views?

It's always good to try and improve the birds you have with some out crosses from time to time, otherwise you'll fine you'll be left behind in the sport

@devo exactly correct and you pretty much explained what I do week in week out for our place, I've done very well with the same method some you get wrong but the ones you get right keeps the loft winning and financially can be very rewarding I picked out Tom van gaver early we bought 4 direct sons of fin we paid 3k 2 years later they was 50k each and 7k for the children of his children

Great buys then Danny, good to hear mate. Its good to find an opal, then get it polished. I found out the more and more of traveling around Europe. and different loft visits opened my eyes. Breeding was always my gold and silver was racing. But i enjoyed the sport when i was in the game.

@devo yeah absolutely 👍 you can still enjoy the sport in the olr racing keeps the toes in the water as they say and makes it interesting to watch

@tony good question for @devo Wonder who he met back in the day I've been lucky to become friends with and visit some great lofts of fanciers in Belgium and Holland, but my favourite loft ever is what was peter veenstras loft now belongs to his son gerrit it's amazing gino clique loft is also incredible

Tony, i would have to say the Janssen family loft. I sat with my mouth open for 20 minutes, sitting next Louis was memory for life. Before we wnent to the Janssen loft. We were at the home of August and Frank Dememann. Friends of the Janssen family. They had forty direct birds from the Janssens. There was a 3 year waiting list for a youngster, from the Janssen loft.

Wow 3 years bet there birds where a few £ as well, but you had a good visit to both lofts then

Very nice @devo 👌 my boss met the last brother and Gerrard koopman dad back in the day his father was friends with them both he has pictures as a kid on the famous green 2 seater sofa in his office, I'm great friends with gino clique gerrit veenstra Tom van gaver but so many great fanciers nowadays none compare to the three brothers some amazing memories, you get that feeling when you meet people in the sport you respect I remember going to meet gerrit in halaar at a club basket night a few years ago and been mesmerised when he introduced dirk bulk to me face to face I was speechless
