Liberation - ClashGuard

So stepping away from LoftBuddy for a minute I've been working on something that fanciers have wanted to see in pigeon racing for years.

Every race weekend we see the same questions:

- "Who's at Bath on Saturday?"
- "What time is your federation liberating?"
- "Will we be crossing another convoy?"
- "Has anyone heard what time the Combine is going?"

Despite everyone wanting this information, there has never really been a central place where federations can share it.

So I've started building Federation ClashGuard.

The idea is simple...

Each federation (or convoyer) registers their planned liberation by entering:
• Race date
• Liberation site
• Planned liberation time
• Destination/flight corridor
• Approximate bird numbers

The system then plots every liberation on an interactive map and compares the projected flight paths.

It automatically:
🕊️ Maps each federation's flight corridor
⚠️ Highlights where two routes are likely to intersect
📊 Shows the number of birds expected to be in the air
🚦 Gives an overall conflict status
📝 Suggests where staggering liberation times could reduce the risk of birds mixing
📅 Allows everyone to filter by race date and view all planned liberations in one place.

I've also included over 100 official RPRA race points to make entering liberations quick and consistent, plus the ability to share an entire day's schedule with a single link.

The important thing is that this isn't designed to tell federations what to do.

It's simply a planning tool.

If two organisations can see they're both planning to liberate thousands of pigeons from nearby race points into crossing flight corridors within a few minutes of each other, they can make an informed decision before the baskets are opened instead of finding out afterwards.

Of course, the biggest challenge isn't building it...

It's getting enough federations to actually use it. The more organisations that register their liberations, the more useful it becomes for everyone.

I'd genuinely appreciate your thoughts.

Would this be something your federation or combine would use on race day if it were available?

What a great idea, hopefully all the Feds start using it or at least give it ago for the rest of the Y/B season it can only help so birds don't clash

Great idea like many apps before also but the problem is the people running the feds and technology imbalance they set in the ways politics is a joke, but absolutely a great idea will transporters of club feds listen from our experience no sadly, it's why we ended up in new Yorkshire middle route well run and great competition it's the mnfc of UK club racing if you win here you can win anywhere

As I say it's something that can only work if it's being used.

I have done the hardest part in building the tool, but I can't force anyone to use it!

Hopefully people will see that it can be a useful addition!

Now I hope you don't take my questions as a dig at what you're building but could you answer a couple of questions?

🕊️ Maps each federation's flight corridor. How wide are the 'so called' corridors? and are the flight paths straight lines?
⚠️ Highlights where two routes are likely to intersect. Are the different speeds of each racing pack taken into account?

Fair questions, and no offence taken. Right now the tool draws each route as a straight line release-to-loft with no width — so it's a simplified planning aid rather than a precise prediction of where birds will actually fly. Speeds are factored in though: it calculates when each federation's flock would actually reach any crossing point based on their estimated speed, not just where the lines cross on the map. I know from experience routes like the M5 corridor bend the "real" flight path away from a straight line, so that's a known gap I want to improve — possibly letting convoyers mark known valleys/flyways so routes bend through them rather than assuming point-to-point. But I am open to suggestions on how to plot this!

Why cant whatts app be used so all communication can be shared, in this day and age you would think. There should be better information being used, we are in 2026.
