I use to be very strict after the yb stage but I think to strict for youngsters as some of my best were consistent without winning I don’t mean 25 min behind my first birds but say 5-10 min and never making errors

For sprinting if a yearling didn’t come to finish top 20 fed 2 times min 3 times if we are having winds in my favour they would go

Now I’m in 2 minds I was going to be generous with yearling and let them get to the end of two year olds to judge them on the middle distance
Then I clocked 5 yearlings at 412 miles in 45 mins
I had 8 on the day 6 were yearlings
So that’s thrown me a bit do I got back to judging yearlings like I did for upto 200 miles

For me Neil yearlings must perform I sent 18 to perth 297 miles and had 16 out the 18 in 14 mins it was back wind but still 297 miles ,same as vire in mnfc I sent all yearlings head wind clocked 3 in a minute on t3 n had 90 percent of team home before others in area clocked ,
In London I found my best old birds were best baby's out of weatherby ripon scotch corner ,,I like 50 quid for the yb fed winners out of Peterborough n Newark I lost as yearlings.

All I be doing Neil is keeping clocking sheets each week 3rd week any not been there abouts will be gone pal ,,I need to build dream team again in London I raced 8 hens every hen been 1st 2nd 3rd fed until black Saturday 2021 here 40 racers n 28 had come 3 to 5 times to top fed now iv not got a team like that but won't take long being ruthless, after my dad passed I went through a patch where I didn't want to cull unless necessary but now I fill different.

Similar here I didn't race baby's but got them in mnfc n put them up with big fed n had them on training wagon few times I did train em a good bit 60 plus tosses I say but I never switched of once in moult or in pre season conditioning so now there health ,weight ,fitness is all done just need few tosses and in two first race .

That’s my last one to Easter then hopefully I get 4 in a row
The hens flew a hour today so I need to continue that
I think they had 7 at 16 miles over 8 days and I don’t want to get them thinking it’s only 20 mins fly a day
So I will go tomorrow’s then a weeks solid work at home I think followed by 4 sharp ones to focus the mind again

So with your plan for this season will you increase the distance for training or stick to 16 / 18mls.

Mine are flying so hard and well at home ,there flying like they have a electric twitch hard to describe but I don't want to take a edge of em by over tossing them pal

I had 2 yb fed winners 2024
One was gone 2nd race
The other i stopped to race the cock to as it was crap obviously it’s not with me now

Mark Bulled’s got a good way and very simple the best all go to Berwick
Pick your very best 6-8 out and send the rest to Thurso if fit and healthy
Then select and that’s the start of keeping a sprint and distance family

yes I agree with what you & Anthony have said , that's ok if you have a reasonable team around you with number's but harder if you've only got a small back garden set-up. I've been trying to build a team for the last couple of year's but it's hard with BOP etc, I didn't race any ybs last year because of this just f**ked my head in.
What I'm trying to say is yes the principle to take out duffers but hard when you only have a small percentage of pigeons to work with, but I need to be more on it .
