Think the storms, rain in particular will help them home Trev. Certainly a bit of respite from the heat.
The NFC tried to beat the weather and failed. The majority of the birds will have been grounded by rain, waiting for a change in the weather.Bowbroom wrote: Sat Jul 19, 2025 11:07 am It seems like an unmitigated disaster only 10 home so far, whatever happened it definitely was NOT a race
If they do it will be a first. The forecast for the next few days is not good at all. I'm sure many birds will work back, but the final result will make grim reading. When you prepare birds for a 500/700 mile race, you expect them to be released in decent conditions.Bowbroom wrote: Sat Jul 19, 2025 3:50 pm Somebody got this way wrong, wonder if anybody will stick their hands up?
I'm led to believe the pigeons arrived on site only a few hours before being libbed. Obviously been fed at some point before being libbed and then chucked up in the heat of the day. Have holdovers been banned? Pigeons have been held up for days on end for as long as the sport has been going and many a good race has been had. People (and maybe there is something to it) do not like the idea of the pigeons being in the aluminium crates they now use for days on end given that they are a greater generator of heat than the old wicker baskets or wooden crates.
The NFC need to seriously think about having their longest race from Bordeaux in conjunction with the BICC and MNFC for a few years and hope fanciers get some pigeons around them again. I know last weeks Bordeaux race wasn't a good one but there is far far too much channel racing for the number of pigeons and fanciers there are. Organisations need to swallow their pride and come up with some kind of joint programme. One thing for certain things can't be any worse.

There will have been very few if any that were sent to this that weren’t prepared correctly or expected to do the job, they weren’t given a fair crack of the whip end of, why the decision to liberate was made god only knows, there will be multi winners not home yet I’ll guarantee it
