The racing pigeon market is flooded with all different products, this is the best that is the best. So what are your thoughts on looking for the right feed for your birds?
Some members may not give pellets to their birds, here is a product that I would use myself. But what are your thoughts.

Your thoughts please.
I am sure those are very high quality products and the pigeons perform very well on them
I simply prefer to use fresh ingredients and feed my own diet to my pigeons.

They are nice mixes, very expensive though, and I'm not sure the extra money really makes much difference to performance !!
Our top flier has won 6 from 6 races this year and topped the Federation 3 times, he races on a basic and fairly cheap SS Seeds mix.
To answer your question though Dev, I did like the Gem mixes that contained their G10S pallets, I also used to add layers pellets. I've not done that this year so it will be interesting to see if my birds do as well from the longest races as they did last year !!
As I'm sure Andy will also say, but maybe I'm more detail than me, the advantage of feeding a complete mix in pellet form is that you know the birds are getting everything you want them to get, rather than just picking out what they like.

As you might remember when you was over here we have been starting last year with the addition of p40 for our youngsters from day 1 until about 1 1/2 months out from the first race. The difference in growth for the youngsters since the addition of p40 is immense in our opinion. Some of the youngsters look like yearlings already despite the first race beeing about 10-12 weeks away still. We also believes that the fast growth is also very important for One loft racing and for us the OLR results of last year since the addition of it is proof enough that atleast for us its a key factor as an addition to our feeding mixture for youngsters. Tho the p40 pellets are from Kasper Fauna-Food and not from vanrobaeys and it might seem like 40€ for a bag is expensive but with the recommended mixture of 4 to 1 you get about 100kg of feeding out of that. Which for us lasts a few months.
Yes Leon, we did chat about the P40 pellets. I used them myself when I had the birds. Very good feedback on this topic so thank you all. We all have different views on different topics, but it is good to hear all views.Spieker-Loft wrote: ↑Wed May 28, 2025 3:10 pm As you might remember when you was over here we have been starting last year with the addition of p40 for our youngsters from day 1 until about 1 1/2 months out from the first race. I think pellets are useful and yes they will stop the birds from picking out the grains they prefer and get all the vitamins and minerals they need in a pellet.
Having said that I am just feeding what I can get from my wholesalers. At present just feeding an all round mix.

Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.
I see the Pro mixtures feature oligosaccharides (complex sugars). One of the best plant sources of oligo nutrients is kale, which I grow and pick fresh for the birds. Peas and wheat also contain them.
I'm a bit like a dog with a bone regarding nutrients. If someone says "this is good for them", I ask "why?"
Then I look to see what are the best natural sources and whether they actually need it supplemented.
Never forget, the manufacturers are in business. If you put something in a pack and call it "NEW and IMPROVED!", someone will buy it.

I do agree with you Murray, because I have seen your garden. Also watched you doing the fresh veggies for the birds, and I have to say. The birds love them and they don't last long, same with grit and minerals fresh daily.
But I would say a mixed feed with pellets, does make it more easy with a large volume of birds, Knowing they are getting all that is needed. So I understand, a flyer with a small loft would not buy a bag of pellets. So a bag of mix with pellets mixed in could be for them. But then again some flyers may not like pellets.

Of course for many people complete processed feeds are the very best way forward. Not everyone has the time or space to be growing their own feed stuff, and for those with big race teams, it would be a chore doing what I do.
Also here in Australia the pellets on offer are perhaps not as advanced as the ones you have in Europe. I don't know of many people who use them here. I do know some flyers who do use quite a lot of supplements on their grain mixes though.
