Morning all, your thoughts please as to why pigeons get ybs this time of year.

This has been a strange one Mike for me,so ybs not raced just trained out to 10 mls. So 3 weeks ago they've been flying out most day's I'd say flying for an hour going off, called in & fed then the dropping started to go wrong was the first sign black watery green droppings then a few vomiting. So as a precaution I cut feed right down the next day & covered the small amount of feed with Nifuromycin powder to start & in the water. They gradually improved over the next few day's on this medication. I have brought in some pigeons but these have been isolated in my garage from day one & still are. The only conclusion I can come up with is the last 12 month we have about 100 ferals flying around sometimes they get mixed up & fly or go off in various groups, mine usually drop these as they can't keep up for long periods of flight that's my only thought about this the ferals look small & greasy looking plumage wise & not rung. So to date they are back to normal dropping good & when let out on good day's fly for over an hour.
Just as a pointer for anyone don't let this take hold be proactive because if it gets out of hand then you may well be to late to turn things around.

Sorry Mike they have been vaccinated at about 5 weeks old this was back in April with Nobivac so vaccinated 6 months ago.

With listening to you over a period of time Mike I've anticipated that there was something amiss not right so I didn't wait & glad I didn't as time is key. I'm still non the wiser to be onest, I just thought it was strange for this time of year for them to go down with it.

Hello Trev, I didn't lose any which was good & my old birds have been fine, it's only been last year that someone & I don't know who it is that's got them started of with about 10 pigeons, then down on the main road another person has 50/60 all unrung without rings they are out all the time even when the weather's bad. The fields around here are all being built on for housing so I don't think they would go fielding.

I used the RP vac this year not sure if it helped but one team still got yb sickness 2 days after the jab the next round never got ybs at all

I had intended to use that one but then ended up using the one from Schroeder, a couple were a little green after vaccination but no youngbird sickness during racing.
