While in Bendigo for doctor's appointments yesterday we picked up the 'new recruit'. I was expecting him to be pretty badly marked, but actually he's not too bad. He's been scalped but it looks like it was mainly on one side of the back of his head. It's healed up and he has a couple of little sticky up feathers on his head, but he's fine. In fact I suspect that when he moults he might improve a bit.
I've named him The Phantom. After The Phantom of the Opera. He's perfect in every way. Except for his head :D
Absolute terrific young cock. Outstanding.
Looking at him you would almost think he was still trainable. I reckon I've seen worse in the transporter. I almost think David and Adrian from the stud have used it for a reason to let us get the pigeon.
He has a box in the new loft, for sure. :D

He will be ok Murray, you will give him great care to get over the stress. Another great youngster in the project.

Yep, he was pretty upset earlier today, at's all new, but I fed him on the perch at one point, and when I gave them their afternoon feed he was hesitant. When I peeked in 10 minutes later he was in the feed tray having a good bite. :D
Couple of days, he'll be settled in.

To those who served and those who died for our countries.
We will remember them.
Sometimes you wonder why they bothered.

I've got a couple of birds here that were badly scalped as babies, as you say Muzza, after a full moult you can barely notice anything.
I hope he settles well and lines your loft with plenty of champions.

I flew the pigeons early this morning, so I could go to Bendigo and pick up the eggs we were offered. So, of course they flew 70 minutes ;)
Half a dozen stock birds thought a dawn fly was a good idea, and two of the small ones had their first big fly, I was thinking I'd never get away.
But just for once, at all came together, everything was in surprisingly quickly and away I went.
It's about 70 miles to Bendigo, and I had the radio on LOUD and cruising along. Thinking I wished Devo was here. He likes driving along in the country here, chatting about this and that.
Got to Davey's place, nobody home. :?
A minute later Stacey arrives, " He's not here, he forgot he's umpiring football".
So I called him. He's on the field, with his phone in his pocket. "Hang on" He says, " someone's going to kick goal".
A few moments later, "Yea I forgot about this".
He told me which pair in which pen to take the eggs from and slip pot eggs under.
"You know where the key is!"
Amazing  So I got home in time for lunch with eggs which went under a pair, I still have no idea what they are off, but there is a youngster in that pen which is fantastic, :o
People wonder why I look so much better. I am having fun, that's why
