Rdhd Danny wrote: Sun Aug 16, 2026 9:42 am Well a mixed day yesterday 22nd fed out of 2k birds not what we wanted but the race has massive losses and thankfully we didn't lose any, you have to take the positives from it but really disappointed, liberation was moved from Huntingdon to decoy lakes something we was not expecting or informed about till last minute but we keep pushing forward @leon good luck with today 👍
Yes heard from Anthony Webster it was a bad day yesterday, what the reason is nobody knows & yes those that put in 100% with the pigeons on a daily basis week in week out still have the same result, I guess at the end of the season whether yb racing is actually worth bothering with. Maybe time to try something different with ybs in the future.
Maybe the future is like horse racing, let the young birds develop, and train them well. Then race them as yearlings. Some members enjoy young bird racing, and some don't. So all down to choice.

@devo may well go that way in the future, I do think yb racing is very demanding and a discipline in itself plenty of great fanciers like my boss are hopeless at getting a yb team together and not suffering massive losses and with the bop population increasing and summers reaching the heats we getting more often it's going to get harder, a lot of people simply won't compete I feel

I just feel there needs to be much preparation done, when racing young birds. Every day for them is a learning day, in the process of life for development. You need to work with the youngsters daily, carrying out different tasks. You dont move on to the next task, until the last task is fully compleated. Just remember all the youngsters are individuals. this is why i say breeding at the right time. To compleate all tasks of traning before racing starts. Dont set them up to fail.

so something needs to change which is blatantly obvious, you can't keep making the same mistakes your going to get the same result.
If this season has taught us anything is do we continue to race yb in extreme heat, so this is probably 3/4 weeks with losses across the country coupled with the Eclipse we had somethings not right.
We need to try & change the racing calender move it back to start ob racing later & yb as well race later . The answer is definitely not to breed more to compensate for the bop issues, if we carry on the same & not change then as I said you get the same result & at the end of the season more people will pack up.

Yeah I agree we should move it but I just don't think we will get them to do it sadly

HI who is going to make this decision the none flyers who have stopped racing but took on jobs in the federations or the ones who are topping up there pensions with the RPRA who also dont race. The Warwick fed had old bird and young bird racing no one in are club sent any young birds early one fancier sent 6 old hens first young bird race as a trainer for nrcc . If we move young birds back whats the weather like in october not good late september rain . I think you are looking in the wrong direction its in the breeding you only have to look at dogs they have bred for certian things and forgot about other traits have we done the same bred for speed. Because the fastest lad in are school wasnt in the top class and just an example duck there heads in the drinker teach them how to drink natural survival should kick in surely cheers jack

Well said Jack, and unfortunately we have a lot of non flyers, and flyers that only fly half the programme.

This is going to be unsustainable if we don't change things.
Jmo we want pigeon racing to continue but to carry on doing the same thing every year & do the same again just because we've always done it like this then the outcome is grim.

Feeding: 50% Relax 50% Reise Light

Suppelents: Turbo RR in drinker

Race/Training: x

Note: Needed a day to swallow that pill from yesterdays race.. Basically yesterdays release turned into a release that was planned at 7am to a release that happened at almost 1pm. Word on the street is our driver was parting the day before and only started the drive to liberation point at 7am instead of the night before as he should. Result of that. 1 day now after liberation there is still 55% of the yb's in the fed missing. Took us a total of 2 hours and 14 minutes to even reach the 33% price cards in the fed and by then it was already over 5pm not many birds returned that day. about 30-40 in the fed returned today but overall over half is missing. They got released into pure heat. Right this second We have 53/77 at home. And thats almost the best in the fed. Sadly theres a few lads that have not even 25 home from 70 basketed etc. People are upset and i also asked 3x in the group chat of our fed yesterday what exactly has happened and what the reason for the late release was but the people in charge dodge every question and havent said 1 word since yesterday. A fed close to us released on same point 3 hours before us and had a perfect race. couldve been us aswell but what can you do. I guess this is the reward for putting in absolute effort since 9 months. Me and my father are gutted some really nice birds still missing.. Theres a high chance that this is already the end of the season because you need 150 birds basketed for a race to happen here in germany. And right now the fed has barely more then 250 birds home and i already talked to 5 people that said they quit after this race so who knows if we even manage to start another race up.. anyways i still give you some results of yesterday in fed we won 9,9,18,21,21,23,23,25,25,27,27th and counting. 34 Price cards. As it currently stands we are 1st Fed Yb champion and we have the first 5 ace yb's in fed but can hardly be happy with anything right now after this race.

Well done to all of you who sent Y/Bs to race this weekend hope you all had good returns and results.
I believe going by what I have read on here and from other fanciers its been bad returns again across the board hope they all return.
