But this lad has been very fortunate and has received birds from the best fanciers in the fed. I advised him who best to accept birds from and he has been very lucky.
He ain't lucky dave he's fetched parathyroid into he's loft pal ,
If lads cull birds that hit roofs ,birds that get one eye cold ,birds that baby's die ,birds that feed small seed ,birds that only want small seed once weaned, birds that hunch up when it's tough if lads just culled these birds they would progress massively probably be 85 percent better in 3 years .

Very true Anthony if your a natural stockman you just get a feeling that something isn't right, the mistake that probably a lot of fancier's struggle with is they hold onto these pigeons thinking that maybe the next round will be better or it's got a fantastic pedigree & fall into that vicious circle again. Yes like you said if the selection process was better in the first place then you'd take out any weaknesses got to be an improvement in the short to long term.

Keep it simple donkeys breed donkeys each time and winners can breed donkeys so why piss around none of us are going to live until we're 100 years old so why throw a Yr of ya life away on a donkey or a dream ,like breeding of average birds u cross a average bird with a good one u get just above average each time and if u do breed a freak it won't produce they never do .

Ant, please don't think I'm questioning what you say. I'm just asking cos I want to learn and I dont understand...if he bought anything into his loft e.coli/paratyphoid or whatever, wouldnt it have shown up in his 1st round of babies as well

My opinion its parathyroid 100percent and he's either been gifted a bird since or fetched one in since first round ,but I wouldn't be confident with the first round baby's if there bred of these birds ,,see dave animals must be 100 percent perfect not 95 percent any defects show up they show up less around loft less training but once there pushed any defects they will fold ,,
Young birds must be treated like squaddies bk in the day you want to buckle them separate the strong from weak as yearlings there like paratroopers and two make 2yr in ya team there like ya sas super special,,you anit going to win with anything less ,,
My methods are harsh but I have one aim separate the good from shite as quickly as possible, stock are treated similar if stock need help there culled dave if I lose 2 baby's from a pair there culled I haven’t got patience for messing with rubbish pal.

I spoke with some one today you know I have a few ybs from to try from the other side of the water

I asked him with just 8 pair of stock how do you select what’s goes in there
He said he breeds only out of fed winners in his race team so they will have 6/8 babies while in the race team if they don’t breed a fed winner in that time no matter if they have won the fed they don’t go to stock
So fed winners breeding fed winners get to go to stock if not they don’t go in there no matter what they won

Can’t argue with that
It's Bullet profe ain't it pal

Definitely food for thought & I think that's the difference with fancier's on the front foot with this on a regular basis, if you stand still your toast in this game & that's making hard choices at times.

Thanks lads I appreciate that and have passed your comments on.
He's been gifted a few ybis this year but they are from top top Fliers akin to you guys who I can't imagine would have it in their lofts but it just occured to me that he has just bought in and built a 2nd hand loft
Could it have been lying dormant in there. It's not had birds in it for maybe a year.

I've not pursued that subject with him yet Neil. It's not only him, it's his mum too. She has been encouraging and helping him too.
I've told them that it is sometimes necessary to cull but Ive not said its likely to be an ongoing thing.
Because his grandfather used to race pigeons there is still an air of romance and emotion about it all for both of them.
So yes, I think it would be kinda awkward in these early days
