Despite this being a debacle, what a performance by the 8 year old entered by A Holland of Shipley flying 739 miles Which had been in the open result from Pau and Tarbes in previous years, what price this fantastic bird?
Congratulations to the owner, surely this gallant bird has now earned a perch for life

Yes it certainly knew how to fend for itself and the desire to get home must have been overwhelming
Does anybody on here know the owner and would be prepared to get some details of this once in a lifetime pigeon on the open result of the NFC blue riband event for the third time

I know Andy. This bird has been clocked 11 times in NFC races. It's probably of Brian Denney bloodlines.

Brian himself has clocked birds many times at 8 years old at this distance, he even once clocked a TEN year old from 700 miles. That bird was GB 97 N 15859 Bred and raced by Brian Denney. And flew 700 miles FIVE times.
As a yb five races to 200 miles.

Wow, what an amazing bird!
Looking at that fantastic record - and considering other peoples results this year, I have made up my mind to get my yearlings over the 500 mile mark next year.
Thats also assuming I have a reasonable yb season
and have birds available to send of course.
It must be amazing to own special pigeons like these and to be able to send them with such confidence that they not only get home but you know that they will be on the result.

If you have a team of yearlings with parents, grand parents, that have done that, by all means go for it.
If you have a family of pigeons that are still at the development stage, shall we say, use a little restraint.
There are few things as soul destroying as a loft full of empty perches.

Agree 100% birds that can put up performances like that are the result of genetics and consummate stockmanship over many years there’s no easy quick way that’s why the same names are in the frame year after year.
Yearlings imo are your race team of the future at the distance

Thanks Murray. I am developing my own family of birds but I am also confident that my birds are "from birds that have done that"
I am not so naive that I am even considering myself in the same league as these names that do it season after season but it is what I keep and race the birds for. So if I don't try to realise that potential in them, I will be letting myself down as well as the birds.

Ahhhww, thanks BB - I am humbled to have you guys looking out for me.
I am so pleased I took your advice to not send my yearlings a couple of weeks ago.
As I still have them now for next year I can actually make that comparison for myself by sending some as yearlings.
I already have a realisation that I can't compete with these "names" with numbers or resources so to some extent, I am already hampered but at the moment my main competition is the distance itself.

Incidently, I am very pleased to let you know that I had one of the 2 birds home at the w.end that I sent to Bordeaux.
