Dave if you register with racing pigeon testing laboratory you can get what you'll need. Better still use them to do your testing. Their not cheap but in the long run you'll save money only treating when needed.

Its a quandry - I am not an "oh woe is me" person but since I have retired, I dont have the money it takes to race my birds how I want to, and if I cant do that, I will stop racing. Im not going to go on about how expensive evrrything is and Im sure most of us race on a budget anyway so I am having to compromise on whatever I have to for as long as I can.
I dont like treating my birds with meds throigh the season anyway, so they are not essential as such but I do use them as a preventative. Usually before breeding.
To sign up to one of these treatment places would be a luxury I can ill afford and from what Mike and Andy used to say about them, they aint that accurate anyway.
I'm pretty sure (but not certain) it costs nothing to register with them Dave and then anything you do need you will be able to get. And it's better stuff than what you buy over the counter from these companies at shows. Regards the resting, everyone has an opinion, what I would say is this company work through the Irish Equine Centre, they aren't an egg and spoon testing place that give results within 24 hours. We've used them for about 7 years now, I've passed their details on to a couple of successful fancier friends and they too have been happy. Like I say their not cheap and I appreciate being retired puts limits on expenditure but even if you just register you'll be able to get what you need. I can post the link if you want to have a lookDiamond Dave wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2026 8:08 amThanks for this Goose.goose1 wrote: Sun Nov 01, 2026 7:23 pmDave if you register with racing pigeon testing laboratory you can get what you'll need. I'm registered with RP Diagnostics as they offer free signups, you can then get access to prescription stuff as you need it!Diamond Dave wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2026 8:08 amThanks for this Goose.goose1 wrote: Sun Nov 01, 2026 7:23 pmDave if you register with racing pigeon testing laboratory you can get what you'll need. Oh, thanks to you both for this, yes please, Id be grateful for the contacts of both those companies.
Some years ago (I was still working) I signed up with belgica de weerdt when they were based at Cambridge
(before theybecame an integral part of Pallets) and I had to pay a membership fee of something like £150 a year to join. it was quite exclusive and I think the vet himself was one of the de weerdts.
From then on I thought that "signing -up" to these companies was at a membership cost.
How wrong !!
Having said that, the guy on the pallets stand at donny told me that all of the big companies like Rhonfreids
De weerdt, Vanroebys etc are no longer producing any meds in soluable form so, do you think these testing companies will have them for very long anyway.

It's so very different down here. 100 to 300 youngsters is normal. There is no way people are going to put tablets down the throats of that many.Diamond Dave wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2026 11:21 am Oh, thanks to you both for this, yes please, Id be grateful for the contacts of both those companies.

The big companies will supply soluble medications on prescription on a phone call.
I haven't had any for years but when I first called them they asked some questions to establish who I was, what club I belonged to and that I had half an idea what I was doing, got my credit card details and sent it.
When we moved to St Arnaud I visited the local vet and explained I had racing pigeons. She said if I needed anything she was happy to get it in for me.
It's sort of the Aussie mentality. How to make things happen, rather than make it as difficult as possible.
