Preparation
Well in this sport, preparation did not start yesterday. It should have started weeks ago, at the end-of-season evaluation. What went good or what went wrong, and some who, what, when, where and why questions. They all need to be answered, so preparation can start to improve things. So let us hope you have done your homework. Your birds depend on you, as much as you depend on them.
as you know Devo my first season with the birds so for me I haven't got anything to go on apart from what I think of them loft flying, how they look and their attitude in the loft, so from that hopefully I can pair them the right way so they click and breed some Y/Bs that's the first thing then after that maybe, just maybe they breed some good race birds for the Y/B race season mate

If was me I would let them find there own partners, I think they tend to pair best to best themselvesTony-P- wrote: Fri Oct 30, 2026 7:29 pm as you know Devo my first season with the birds so for me I haven't got anything to go on apart from what I think of them loft flying, how they look and their attitude in the loft, so from that hopefully I can pair them the right way so they click and breed some Y/Bs that's the first thing then after that maybe, just maybe they breed some good race birds for the Y/B race season mate
Sadies Lofts home of decent birds just a useless loft manager, and now a confirmed loser but proud

I let them choose their own mates as much as possible too. I think the love match often produces the best youngsters. I'm not above "introducing" a pair to each otherBuster121 wrote: Fri Oct 30, 2026 8:51 pmIf was me I would let them find there own partners, I think they tend to pair best to best themselvesTony-P- wrote: Fri Oct 30, 2026 7:29 pm as you know Devo my first season with the birds so for me I haven't got anything to go on apart from what I think of them loft flying, how they look and their attitude in the loft, so from that hopefully I can pair them the right way so they click and breed some Y/Bs that's the first thing then after that maybe, just maybe they breed some good race birds for the Y/B race season mate
The only time I intervene is when a pair would be getting too closely inbred or some other reason like that.

Most of my birds choose their own mates. My birds are ALL related. I too only step in to prevent very close birds pairing.Murray wrote: Fri Oct 30, 2026 9:49 pmI let them choose their own mates as much as possible too.
