To race the distance, you need good quality birds. So there is 2 main lofts you could be looking at, this video explains about about the 2 different lofts. I hope some members enjoy.
Flying the distance
A very good video featuring two exceptional fliers.
Both emphasize the importance of the quality of the pigeons. But I'm learning that can come from many different sources.
My mate David Cox has a stock pigeon, Hawkeye, a straight Heremans, which is a once in a lifetime breeder. Every week one of his children or grand children wins somewhere. They have won from 50 miles to 500 miles.
On Monday one of his grandchildren, out of a daughter, was 13th in the result from 700 miles! They have to fly across hundreds of miles of desert without a tree and without a drop of water.
That defies all the accepted wisdom about how you breed distance pigeons. Take a hen that's half Heremans and half inbred Jansen, and breed 700 milers out of it.
The Hawkeye is a Super breeder. And that's what's required. The invisible thing that ordinary pigeons don't have.
