Yes Murray you did.Murray wrote: Thu Sep 17, 2026 9:27 pmYou might recall that'ss what I said a few weeks ago.Andy wrote: Thu Sep 17, 2026 6:34 pm I presume you are going to have to take your old loft down before you move? Which is only in a couple of weeks time. I would probably take them to where you’re moving to and release them from there a few times before you move. Once moved and settled in they will hopefully retrace their way back to you new location. But being only a couple of hundred yards you shouldn’t have much of a problem.
Good luck with it Matt.
Start taking them to the new place and release them half a dozen times, a dozen times, doesn't matter.
When you move put them in the new loft for a couple of days while you remove the old loft. Once you are happy that they are settled in the new loft start letting them out a few at a time. They'll go straight back, find nothing there and drift back to the new place.
Well done on finding a place that lets you keep the pigeons.

Just wondered if you had considered any other design of loft to fit your space Matt. Don't always have to be conventional as the birds probably won't know any different.
I know that ppl with pfl often use a rabbit hutch style of loft.

Cheers both.
Murray, yeah that's something I'll definitely be trying. I've not actually started moving them over yet, but I'll have a play with it before the move and see how they react to the new spot.
Devo, I've honestly not really looked into unconventional loft styles at all. I've just been thinking about how to make the best use of the space I've got.
One idea that has crossed my mind is a sort of triangle-shaped shed to fit into the angle of the garden. It could make use of what would otherwise be a fairly awkward bit of space, but I'm not sure how practical it would actually be as a pigeon loft
I'm still at the "throwing ideas around" stage really, so nothing decided yet.

The triangle works very well matt. A clubmate of mine has been racing successfully to national level for some 30 years. The front forms l8ke a verandah with yb sec one side and w.hood section the other. He has hen boxes on the verandahWinfort Lofts wrote: Fri Sep 18, 2026 10:15 am Cheers both.

Ready made sheds are a rip off. This one is paper thin boards. • Wall Cladding: 7mm traditional square-cut overlap timber boards.Buster121 wrote: Tue Sep 29, 2026 9:00 pm Here is another one Matt at Argos

• Floor Boards: 10mm durable solid sheet board (OSB).• Roof Boards: 8mm solid sheet board (OSB).
Get to a good timber yard and buy the wood yourself. A few lengths of 2" x 2" and either 18mm boards or sheets of exterior plywood.

It's a bit of work but for the same money for materials you can build something solid and durable. And have the satisfaction of standing back and building something yourself.

I agree in principle, but for someone on a tight budget and needing something quickly as in Matt's case it helpsking wrote: Tue Sep 29, 2026 10:31 pmReady made sheds are a rip off.
