A good day out.
Thank you Tony.
Yes, I was very pleased indeed. It was in fact a big deal.
But that was yesterday. I'm an old jockey and you don't hang on yesterday's win. At the crack of dawn I was out caring for the next bunch of youngsters for next year.
We won yesterday, today in the OLR we aren't even in the clock.
One day you are a rooster, next day you are a feather duster.

I was just looking at the picture I posted on the grit and minerals thread.
Looking at the three pigeons nearest the camera it stuck me. That's some decent pigeons.
The blue bar hen is the the mother of at least seven prize winners and the third pigeon in the Ballarat breeders plate.
The Chequer Pied is the father of lots of prize winners including the winner of the Ballarat breeders plate.
The one on the right is the grizzle Thone' who has left so many winners and breeders of winners I've lost count.
I'm not boasting, I'm making a point. There are people who put their noses up and scoff at 'Professionals' who race for money. It's not "sporting"
Well here's a thing. Three of my pigeons raced on Saturday and picked up about $20,000.
The same pigeons could have raced the next day, same distance, faced the same dangers, won the same first three placings and got cards.
The parents and grandparents in that picture would still be totally unaware.
Pigeons have no concept of whether they are even racing, let alone racing for money.
It is just snobbery. People looking down on others who find it helpful to win a few bob.

My "pigeon corner".
Today my darling wife asked me how much I'd got from the Ballarat race?
I told her.
Right! she said. I'm taking you to get a new pigeon jacket. That thing is disgraceful!
It's getting a bit rough, but the pigeons don't care.
Isn't funny how after many years of 'your pigeons', suddenly they are 'our pigeons'.
