Its that time of the year, winter is on the way. So now is the time to be checking your loft, we want a nice dry loft to maintain the birds health. Check around the inside of the loft, checking for any work needs doing. Now is the time before weather changes, a wet and damp loft brings problems.

I had young Scott down for more birds today, he also took my blow torch. I told him to spray Harkers Vykil around the loft, and in the boxes and spray the perch boxes. After 20 minutes blow torch all. He said he had to fix a flashing on the roof, but did not think it was fixed. Remember water will always find its way in. So you have to make sure the roof is sealed.

Well I have stripped out the old part of my shed / loft where I use to keep the budgies and fitted a boarded dividing wall between the stock birds to help form the 3rd section so I have the Late Bred Y/Bs in one section, the Stock birds in the middle section and now I have the 3rd section for any Y/Bs I breed next year.
I have to make and fit a sliding door and make and fit some easy clean perches I sort this out during this week after work, just got to get some materials.

I won’t be doing anything much with mine. I am going to be looking to move and retire soon if we manage to sell our shop. When I move I will probably buy a new loft for my new home.

I think so Steve. We have got to do a few little jobs on the property and get a proper valuation done of both the shop and flat above that we live in and then have a good chat with him before putting it on the open market. We have recently had all new windows and doors put in and replaced some of the roof. So the big jobs have been done. The property is over 200 years old.

I did speak to him just a couple of weeks ago and he said he needs to come round and have a good chat. So fingers crossed. It will certainly save having to market it. Also he was thinking about renting our flat out as he already has a large house for himself and his family in town. So that would mean we would possibly not have to rush to find somewhere ourselves and we could stay for a few weeks to show him the workings of the shop. We’ve been here for 22 years now and the people we brought it off of had it for 25 years previous. So a well established business.
