It still ain't easy to win at those speeds as everyone's birds are doing it also. Recall being 2nd at 80 miles at over 2000yds a min, got beat by one second, flying a mile further than winner

Yea, Danny, that's what they were doing on Thursday in the OLR from 150 miles with a fairly light tail wind. Just on 2000 metres a minute. which is 120 kilometres an hour or 75 miles an hour. Bloody quick.
My two weren't doing that, they are bred to go the 400 miles in the final. But I've got sprint pigeons here that can go that fast with a tail wind.

Good luck tomorrow Tony. John is in a very favourable position for tomorrow’s race going up as part of the 3Cs. In a NE wind and from Chale they will have the wind behind them. Our club have sent just over 300, 1,200+ in the convoy. Ours will not only have to break out early but also the wind will be a side wind. Any going along the coast will then have to come back in a headwind. Could be quite a tester for ours. I sent 7 young birds and 8 old birds, (late breeds).

The final race in this OLR is from 420 miles. Breeding pigeons that can fly at those speeds for 400 miles at 8 or 9 or 10 months old is harder.
Last year they did it twice in a fortnight.
It's a different game.

It's easy to breed them that can go 75 miles an hour? That's 2200 ypm How many you bred that have done that? You don't breed a bird to fly that fast, it's ALL down to a strong tail wind.
Here in the UK NO bird has ever flown 420 miles at 75 mph.

No no, sorry if I didn't explain that well. Last year the final race from 420 miles was a tail wind race and they were home very quickly with hardly a feather out of place.
So we were all offered a repeat, paying $100 per bird to go again. Most of us were in, the birds were fit and well and had proven they could do it.
I was confident that my Free Beer could get a prize with a bit of a head wind, that family are tough. But no, it was another blow home, she wasn't fast enough again't the speedy tail wind pigeons.
I brought her home and her daughter VeeBee is in it this year. If we get another cycle of North West winds blowing them home she won't be fast enough either.
