This is one very few people talk about but is something we use a lot in the stud industry, live culture yogurts are incredible when mixed into feed, but it has to be thrown away after 4 hours can't be left sitting longer, what's the benefits well it puts millions of good bacteria into the crop and ultimately the birds and creates a good health barrier to bacteria but also consider it a must once a week when we are breeding crop milk is heavily affected by it and it's fantastic for the offspring, anyone do this or have in the past?

Never done that mate but it sounds like it makes a lot of sense.... is there any benefit other than the good bacteria. Would it help to keep things like Y. Bird sickness at bay?

@diamondave we do it once a week for our breeders and we see very little yb sickness we had one bad year over 9 years ago and touch wood none sinse can't say that's the reason I feel it's a culmination of things we use a lot of vanrobaeys health balance also and that also helps I feel keep a lot of sickness at bay

@dave I'm getting use to this site the answer I give about yogurts was meant to be to a direct message from @charlton my apologies
I use Gemthepax which is not a live culture, for the reason of waste with you get with a 'live' one like you say. But I don't make the mistake of using a bleach/disinfectant as well.Rdhd Danny wrote: Mon Jul 27, 2026 10:15 am This is one very few people talk about but is something we use a lot in the stud industry, live culture yogurts are incredible when mixed into feed, but it has to be thrown away after 4 hours can't be left sitting longer, what's the benefits well it puts millions of good bacteria into the crop and ultimately the birds and creates a good health barrier to bacteria but also consider it a must once a week when we are breeding crop milk is heavily affected by it and it's fantastic for the offspring, anyone do this or have in the past?
Danny on a different post you say you used Virkon S in the water? Why do you bother promoting good bacteria then kill it with Virkon S? Surely this is counterproductive? Or do you treat breeders & racers different?

@king yes we treat breeders and racers different, we use vircron s for cleaning not in the water, but with our yb team and testers we use it in the water one day a week
