Loft checks
You mean checking the birds on return? I never used to handle the birds but did pay more attention to how they acted.Devo1956 wrote: Thu Jul 23, 2026 11:13 pm On the day of release on Liberation day, what are your loft checks. Even after your birds are home.?
Sorry king i mean full loft check, Fresh water, clocks and so on. I dont want to answer myself.
When I was younger I'd have the loft spotless. Fresh water, STB clock under the trap, a row of 4 thimbles next to it. Waiting 30 mins before the expected time. Enjoyed it more in the 70s/80s than I did in later years. Racing against 50 members was better than 15. Making the top ten was like winning.Devo1956 wrote: Thu Jul 23, 2026 11:25 pmSorry king i mean full loft check, Fresh water, clocks and so on. I dont want to answer myself.

Aint much to do on liberation day. Probaly the day with the least effortDevo1956 wrote: Thu Jul 23, 2026 11:13 pm On the day of release on Liberation day, what are your loft checks. Even after your birds are home.?
Get up turn the clock on. Make sure i make their drinke with Turbo RR as a supplement in the water.
Put candy mix in their feeding in the boxes as a reward when they get home.
Make sure all boxes are closed as i only open them when the bird has arrived.
Celebrate
And then depending on how hard the day was seperate them again sooner or later. Tough race faster seperation = faster recovery. Easy race = more time together.
Then feed them again after seperation and thats liberation day done for me atleast for ob+yl thats the case
Ybs is even more simple because of no boxes and no individual feeding. Just seperation aswell since we seperate cocks and hens as yb's
With my widowhood cocks the hens would have been shut in their respective boxes since removing the cocks. In the morning given fresh water in their boxes and the drinker in the loft. Feed the hens so that all their attention is on the cock when he arrives, the cocks are never trapped for food and aren’t fed until a while, usually around 10 minutes, after they return from the race. After the hens are removed a couple of hours later the cocks are fed as much as they want in their boxes.
It’s then just a case of turning the clock on, with the PAS system I have I need to put in my distance and liberation time so that it gives me their velocities on arrival.
With the young birds it’s just a case of set the ETS up, change the water in the drinkers and wait.
