Why Coconut Water Works Natural Electrolytes: Packed with potassium, magnesium, and sodium, it closely mirrors the mineral balance lost through heavy exertion and heat during races.Energy Boost: Contains simple, easily digestible natural sugars that give exhausted birds a quick and gentle energy hit.Gentle on the Gut: Because it is isotonic, it is easy on a stressed digestive system and hydrates the birds faster than plain water alone.
Coconut water is an excellent, natural alternative to commercial electrolytes for racing pigeons. It is highly effective for post-race recovery, helping to quickly rehydrate birds and replenish lost minerals like potassium and sodium without adding artificial sugars.
How to Serve ItTiming: Serve it immediately upon arrival from a tough race or strenuous training flight, particularly on hot days.Dilution: It is best to dilute the coconut water with equal parts fresh water (a 1:1 ratio) to ensure the sugar content isn't too heavy for their crops.Usage: Offer it for 1-2 hours after the race, then swap it out for plain, clean drinking water.

Great info Devo is coconut water the same as what I would call the "milk" straight outta the coconut or has it already been treated in some way?
No Dave not the milk, its coconut water. You can get in supermarkets. Cheaper in Home Bargain if you have one of them near you.Diamond Dave wrote: Mon Jun 22, 2026 12:15 pm Great info Devo is coconut water the same as what I would call the "milk" straight outta the coconut or has it already been treated in some way?
I have also been told, you can give the birds on basket day, when the weather is hot.

That makes sense logically, but not something I have considered before.
I remember a few years back I did try Aloe Water, again for the properties we hear so much about, but I definitely over did and gave the birds proper loose droppings!
At the time the birds were being kept temporarily in the conservatory, safe to say the missus was not too happy!!
