# LoftBuddy Development Update

Hi everyone,

I thought I'd share an update on LoftBuddy and some of the features that have been developed over the last year or so.

What started as a simple idea to help pigeon fanciers keep better records has gradually evolved into a complete loft management platform covering breeding, racing, training, club management, interactive race replays, health records, and performance statistics.

As both a pigeon fancier and a software developer, my aim has always been to build something that genuinely helps fanciers manage their lofts while making the hobby more connected and engaging.

---

## Bird Management

At the core of LoftBuddy is a comprehensive bird management system.

Each bird can have its own profile containing:

* Ring information
* Colour and sex
* Pedigree records
* Breeding history
* Race history
* Training records
* Medication records
* Performance statistics

For fanciers with larger teams, birds can also be imported in bulk using a CSV file, making it easy to transfer existing records into the app.

A shared public bird registry has also been developed, allowing pedigrees to automatically connect across users where birds already exist within the database.

---

## Racing & Training

LoftBuddy allows users to record both race and training sessions in detail.

Features include:

* Liberation locations
* Automatic distance calculations
* Velocity calculations
* Weather information
* Race result recording
* Training performance tracking
* Historical performance analysis

All race and training data feeds directly into the statistics section, helping fanciers identify their best-performing birds and track progress throughout the season.

---

## Club Race Replays

One of the newest and most exciting additions to LoftBuddy is the Club Race Replay system.

When club members submit race results, LoftBuddy can generate an animated replay of the race using member loft locations and race data.

The replay shows:

* The liberation point
* Member loft locations
* Flight paths back to each loft
* Arrival order based on recorded velocities
* Visual race progression across the map

Rather than simply viewing a traditional result sheet, members can watch the race unfold and see how birds performed across the entire club area.

The feedback on this feature so far has been fantastic and it has quickly become one of the most talked-about parts of the platform.

---

## Breeding Management

The breeding section allows users to manage the entire breeding process.

Records can include:

* Pairings
* Eggs laid
* Hatch dates
* Offspring records
* Parentage tracking

Automatic alerts help users stay on top of key tasks, including reminders when youngsters are approaching ringing age and notifications when ringing becomes overdue.

As breeding records are added, pedigrees are automatically generated and linked together.

---

## Medication & Health Records

Keeping health records organised can be difficult, so LoftBuddy includes a dedicated medication system.

Users can record:

* Treatments
* Medications
* Vaccinations
* Health notes

Push notifications can also be used to remind users when annual vaccinations or other important health tasks are due.

---

## Statistics & Performance Analysis

A significant amount of development has gone into the statistics section.

Users can analyse:

* Individual bird performance
* Race performance
* Loft-wide statistics
* Seasonal trends
* Distance category performance

LoftBuddy also includes its own Loft Performance Index (LPI) system, which generates a score between 0 and 100 based on racing performance, helping identify the most consistent performers within a loft.

---

## Club & Federation Management

Another major area of development has been the Community system.

Clubs and federations can now have their own dedicated areas within LoftBuddy.

Features include:

* Club profiles
* Federation profiles
* Race programmes
* Announcements
* Meeting schedules
* Member management
* Invite code systems
* Interactive member maps

Members can be verified by club officials, providing controlled access to club information while keeping administration straightforward.

Fanciers can also suggest clubs that are not yet listed, helping expand the directory and bring more organisations onto the platform.

---

## User Profiles & Achievements

Every user has their own profile page containing:

* Loft information
* Achievement tracking
* Activity streaks
* Personal statistics

The achievement system rewards users for actively maintaining records and using different parts of the platform.

---

## Notifications & Reminders

LoftBuddy includes a growing range of automated reminders and notifications, including:

* Vaccination reminders
* Breeding alerts
* Ringing reminders
* Race result reminders
* Activity check-ins

These are delivered directly through the mobile app to help users stay organised throughout the season.

---

## Multi-Language Support

LoftBuddy currently supports multiple languages, including:

* English
* Spanish
* Portuguese
* Polish
* Romanian
* German
* French
* Dutch

The goal is to make the platform accessible to fanciers across Europe and beyond.

---

## Available Platforms

LoftBuddy is currently available as:

* Website
* Android App
* Progressive Web App (PWA)

This means users can access their loft records from both mobile devices and desktop computers.

---

It's been a huge project and there's still plenty of work ongoing, but it's exciting to see LoftBuddy being used by fanciers to manage their birds, breeding records, race performances, clubs and federations all from a single platform.

I'd be interested to hear what software or record-keeping systems other fanciers currently use, and whether there are areas of loft management that you feel existing systems don't handle particularly well.

Thanks for reading.

Matt

That is amazing Matt. My word you have been busy.
I love the idea of the race replay that sounds like it would be fun. - I love it all really just wish I was a bit more tech savvy to be able to use it to its full potential.
I hope you get what you want/deserve out of it.
Good luck mate.

Thanks!!.

It's certainly ended up being far bigger than I ever thought it would be!

Based on the stats from earlier today, around 500 or so people have logged in at least once!
