Yes there were quite a few from the longer sections which is nice to see as its a bit of a treck especially on a miserable day. It would be nice if we can grow the membership more from those longer sections, in your opinion Neil what might help that?

Thank you Neil and Mike for your feedback. Start date for racing is always a hot topic and I think you’re right Neil, 2026 it’s 16th May then every two weeks upto Fraserburgh then 3 week gap till Lerwick then two weeks later Thurso, so I do see an opportunity to start a week later, but I only have 1 vote on the committee. I fully appreciated how difficult it can be for longer flyers to be ready in time for 300+ miles by mid May.

Mike absolutely no intrusion, all Ideas are welcome from wherever they come. I have to say I totally agree with you, unfortunately like all clubs our membership is getting older and travelling long distances to mark pigeons is less appealing, so it’s how we do that, that needs careful consideration, I know we have some interest on the south coast so it would be great to have them on board.

I my opinion ( which is probably bias ) the club does a lot of things well that often don’t get highlighted, something like a 1/3 of entry fees gets paid back out in prize money, this years Lerwick winner picked up just over £600, which is considerable more than most other classic clubs paid to their blue ribbon race winner, the winner of Lerwick also get a miniature replica of the kings cup or they can have the value in cash another £600 odd quid. We paid out around 30k in the young bird futurity race so not a bad day if you’re lucky enough to get a cut.

We’ve also had some great racing this year and I think we’ve got the race controlling and conveyer nailed. Not withstanding that some races just don’t turn out as expected, but I think this year has been exceptional, and it’s been absolutely pleasure to receive verifications from the longer flyers, especially out of Lerwick I couldn’t believe it when a 600+ mile bird came in so early on day two.pigeon sport at it’s best.

Hi Jack glad you enjoyed the day, yes it would be great to have some more stall holders unfortunately a couple pulled out at the last moment. I know Ray is tireless in his efforts to get them to come along, unfortunately they are never going to make the money they do at the big shows so encouraging them to come along is difficult.
