The metal roofing sheets I've seen have the high parts on the moulding cut or drilled out like a slot say a foot long on each peak.
Then you have another smaller sheet over the top fixed to the Batten's say 2 inches higher at the front sloping down to maybe an 1inch at the back to create draw of air, I haven't explained this very well but that's the principle.

Hmmm - I think most of you have seen the pics of my loft after I finished it but I was very disappointed this week. It has a half dowelled front with T and G boards underneath with 2 large vents in the sliding doors.
I have never been entirely pleased with it because of a lack of movement of air. Bought some vents at Donny and put them in the back of the loft this week above the boxes same as ur sketch Neil. But still no movement of air.
It is all dry but I can smell the birds which worries me. I thought that fitting these vents would solve the problem and thought that with the dowelled front I wouldn't have that problem but I live on a housing estate with houses all round me and I think they prevent a good airflow. It also faces North but I have no choice on that.
Any thoughts guys.......

Yes I went to a good flyer and he told me vents on front top and rear at top that’s how his was and there was no smell at all in thereNeilA wrote: Fri Nov 07, 2025 7:47 pmCould you take the top board out stick wire in the gapDiamond Dave wrote: Fri Nov 07, 2025 7:33 pm Hmmm - I think most of you have seen the pics of my loft after I finished it but I was very disappointed this week. Then go around the back and put some battens on re fit the board you took off on the battens so that board is set a inch or 2 off the wire
I’m not keen on low vents as I don’t see why people wants cold air in the loft so I would close them off this time of year
I would also cover your open front with poly carbonate leaving a gap at the top or set the poly carbonate off the dowel with so air gets in but you don’t get the damp air freely drifting through the front
Yes had me wondering because the lads told me front and rear at top but if you look at these companies making them they’re usually low on the front. I will be having them on top with aviary on front might try roof system Anthony mentioned seen a few lofts with it.NeilA wrote: Fri Nov 07, 2025 9:05 pm When Dean pallet was racing i remember all he had was air in via a Sputnik out out the back top Mark Bulled the same
Shane Langton took the top board off the front and back set them back a inch or two and put them back so gentle change of air bit all roof height
Not nothing low as the cold air is low why do you need any really cold air into your cocks seems strange all these low vents to me

It's 12 x 6 Ant. 2 sections. 1 section has 12 boxes.
Yo can see from photos where I lowered the height of the boxes to fit a couple of vents in back.
Got 14 birds in each section......?

Would covering the front with polycarbonate make it even worse Neil.........

Thanks Neil, so your saying that by blocking up most of the front, it might help the air flow. - I'll give it a try.

Sorry Held, looks like I've hijacked another of your posts.
I'm thinking that the problems I am having with ventilation might give you some ideas of what not to do and so we both benefit from everyone's replies.
Good luck with your shed conversion this week mate, send us some pics of what you have done.
