What members thoughts with regards to selection at this time of year sprint, middle or long distance whatever your discipline how do you select at your own lofts. Maybe you select right the way throughout the year.

Selection should start imo in the nest, any abnormalities in the eggs (rough or pitted shells etc) and the youngsters monitored at hatching ringing and again at weaning, if unsure err on the safe side.

Each race sprint racing I clock and pull pocket clock out with in 1 min or so ,,the birds not clocked I'm not interested in the birds clocked get 10 points beside there number if there's 5 together they all get 10 points and so on at end of season I get results out add all the points up the best birds stay and rest are removed ,baby's I'm not as strict on but if a baby goes of colour 2 times it's removed if one it's late 3 times from training or racing it's removed if it's bad race and birds are drifting in all day all birds are forgiven buy good races 3 times there removed,,
All so won't tolerate baby's sqeaking all the time one tolerate seed pinchers won't tolerate baby's that Goe on a house roof after 1 week of being let out and won't tolerate a baby that don't toe the line.
Most attention is paid on East winds I find the east wind pigeons are different level in toughness and breeding iv had fast pigeons that spew it soon as its tough with cold east wind on there head.

How has everyone's birds moulted or moulting this season?

If any hadn’t performed as I expected by the end of their yearling year they were deselected except my Krauths as they didn’t really mature until they had another year on their backs, I followed Harold Harts advice with them, get them as far as you can as YBs, in my case out to Rennes then forget you’ve got them as yearlings just get them to the shortest channel race then as 2 year olds they’ll perform and they did

Yes that's what you want to do get the young birds as far as you can personally i wouldn't send them to the channel but it's up to you but sadly this year with young birds the burton and south derbyshire federation didn't even get to Weymouth with young birds.

I like to select the birds in first 1 percent of fed but some seasons you have to lower expectations but first 10 percent is far two week keeping birds in first 100 against say 1000 birds ain't good enough first 3 percent is realistic but first 1 percent if you could do this for few seasons you have great team .

Yes i understand you neil it was just disappointing that are fed couldn't go to Weymouth as I would say mine and my dad's best performances have probably been from Weymouth but it's no bigge
