I think Kings Brown was different When the chocolate meulemans were flavour of the month in the Louella single flight area was full of chocolate paired to chocolate to guarantee the colour of the offspring

I'd call that a Chocolate Pied

Chocolate isn't a colour, it's what many call Recessive Reds like the birds you get in the old Grooters or Meulemans. The pied or white your seeing Mike in my brown is actually Grizzle.

Yes the original fanciers who had them never paired birds to breed Recessive Reds intentionally, they would breed them randomly. When LPW got them that changed to intentionally producing the colour. LPW did the same with many families over the years, including Kirkpatrick's (Yellows), Krauth's (Blacks) ect.

They were valued as breeders by meulemans apparently, as King says they only occasionally appeared they were not turned out en masse commercialy as was the case with Louella

I read his book ages ago i remember stunning pigeons more blue / pencils

I’ve also got his book at home somewhere,a long time since I looked at it but I can’t remember the mention of chocolates, bred for colour rather than performance a bit like the yellows mentioned earlier, and dare I say the grizzles of today, but hey whatever floats people’s boat.

I do like a grizzle but haven’t had one for best part of 40years. Working hard not to give in to temptation

May be Mike but in 20 yrs iv seen 1 grizzle in all the clubs that could race iv never seen a chocolate or a yellow in fact iv never seen a yellow get home for lad that kept them ,,
Iv seen odd shalie n odd mosiac but can count one one hand in 20 years.
