Another great thread gents. I believe everyone who has contributed are sprint specialists and just wondered if I could use similar principles for racing 4/5oo + miles...?

My pal who won bergerac 21 times in 22 years only time he lost he was 2nd fed 2nd combine, bergerac is 460 so miles to him ,he won tarbes grand national 1st nfc pal
Don't feed fats ,
He just laughs at me when I mention carbs n fats n buying 3 or more different mixes ,
I understand fats very well had great results doing it but I can't think of many lofts like my pal that works and races top a sprint racing then 4 national wins middle distance n 1st national long distance feeding 1 mix .

My pal races in Kent he's never raced north rd but think he's won 13 combines when combine was massive don't know how many amal few yrs bk won fed n amal 5 weeks running 5x 1st national from 200 to 568 miles
Won longest race in fed 21 yrs from 22 yrs solid there's better records like mark gilbert and may be mark bullard but no one in Kent as done what he's done at all distances not included the 1st he's had in east of England contential club from France think 2 yrs bk from Guernsey he had 12 together n 18 in a minute of so taking first 12 in East of England,
He's such a good pigeon man that keeps it so simple and don't mix words one day he said there's 3 lofts here full that can fly bergerac on day 460 miles but maybe half a dozen that can do tarbes 560 miles he said that extra 100 miles really sorts the birds out ,
I listen two him n think do I make pigeons complicated because he laughs when I mention fats carbs protiens makes me really re think once we talk about pigeons.

The best widowhood flyer I know Ted Cook in he's prime raced 8 to 10 cocks no more the Yr he's birds won fed sprint averages by 14 minutes and Ted lives in worse location in fed he's short flyer to west other side of Kent valley but he's cocks wouldn't follow drag they was straight home all winds and that Yr he fed 1 mix n was pretty heavey and pots were topped up each exercise but them birds were just unbelievable.

2021 solar flare Pete wiped best team iv ever had out totally destroyed my team so massive point that pal.PeteDerby wrote: Fri Oct 17, 2025 10:48 pm From what I’m beginning to understand, it’s not just the race form we’re feeding for, but also the energy to get back home after a fed clash, a peregrine attack, solar flare or a 5G mast anomaly sends our birds miles off course.
As you guys know this YB season was my first. I followed a feeding regime Frank McLaughlin in the USA sent me - essentially 70-80% barley topped up with VL Champion mix Sunday to Friday, with energy mix and all sorts on the day of return. His view being a fat athlete never won any race unless it was full of fat athletes!
I did ok until they had a race with a strong north easterly - I only realised afterwards I hadn’t read the info properly and hadn’t put anything extra in the tank on the day before shipping - poor things got battered and deserved better from me.
Reading this and other threads, I’ve realised that I’ll never get anywhere unless I get my head around feeding.

I watched a video on YouTube about why we’re losing so many birds these days and the solar flares was one of the things. It points you to a website which says when they’re going to happen.Anthony webster wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 2:23 am2021 solar flare Pete wiped best team iv ever had out totally destroyed my team so massive point that pal.PeteDerby wrote: Fri Oct 17, 2025 10:48 pm From what I’m beginning to understand, it’s not just the race form we’re feeding for, but also the energy to get back home after a fed clash, a peregrine attack, solar flare or a 5G mast anomaly sends our birds miles off course.
The main gist I took was that it’s not one thing, but a mix of those I referenced previously - any combination of which can hit any fancier on different races and their navigation system is scrambled by friggin masts, satellites;, fields of solar panels, microwave wi-if etc. peregrine dives in, they scatter and then that’s that.
I have ADHD and struggle with complexity, but I made sense of it being like relying on satnav to get somewhere, only having enough petrol (or charge Mike) to do a direct route, but the satnav packing up half way and there’s no signposts and the engine runs out of fuel.
