I met a guy recently who did a lot of winning in the 70’s when I had birds before. He’s still winning now, but Frank’s name came up randomly in a conversation. He described Frank as possibly the best pigeon fancier in the world. He surprised me with that.Devo1956 wrote: Sat Oct 04, 2025 12:37 pm For any new starters coming into the game, or even other members. Taking time out to watch videos like this, can only help you and your birds.
This guy talks sence
Same here Andy I agreed with some bit. As for weaning my YBs used to have beans in a pot when fed in the nest. On weaning they got 100% beans for 2 weeks. They learnt to eat the big seeds first and never forgot it. The longer they went running the less road work they needed and further you could start them.Andy wrote: Sat Oct 04, 2025 7:59 pm I’ve just watched that Devo. Some interesting bits and some useful comments. Some I don’t agree with. But I’m not interested in racing young birds really so my methods would be different.
A good post though giving food for thought.

I met Frank at Tim atkins he's great fella we stay in touch regularly the things Frank gets right are important body weight ,he talks sence one thing Frank's birds didn't do they don't trap brilliant think it was the hawks but racing in uk and where he lives now in florida you can't loose 20 secs to 1 min on the trap and win ,for me trapping is as important as body weight ,
When Frank went belgium this year he handled a sprint man's pigeons and said to me they was fat n heavey .
See another thing with zero antibiotic with Frank is brilliant for 1 loft racing where there mixed with hundreds of different birds from different lofts ,,
But where Frank lives now in florida I'm sure he would win races but not sure he could race antibiotic free in that climate red hot heat high humidity and 200 lofts in few miles radius and top top flyers where birds never turn straight down and land on pad ,they work birds hard there 3 races a week in florida and most train 50 ,to 70 miles each morning as well .Frank's old mentor the great pigeon man tony melucci raced in spring hill florida.

Yellow drops is acriflavin for koi carp ,,u can use it by eye dropper down throat, 5ml on food per 20 pigeons but feed it wet on food keep water out loft for 1 hour many ways ,,moxidectin ,ivermectin 2 great wormersMIke Lycett wrote: Sun Oct 05, 2025 9:47 amAndy wrote: Sun Oct 05, 2025 9:06 am He says now antibiotics, then says about using the yellow drops once or twice a week. Says about worming but also says he doesn’t batch treat. How could just treat the odd ones without treating them all?
Worth remembering that yellow drops are not antibiotic
And as for Moxidectin you can use it as an injection straight down the pigeons throat (Neil applies that with great effect)

.
Pleased to hear Neil has had another good season. Try and tempt him back on here!MIke Lycett wrote: Sun Oct 05, 2025 12:06 pmAndy wrote: Sun Oct 05, 2025 10:37 am
I didn’t honestly know what they are. I just know that one top member in our club tried them and said never again.
I don't know about your "top member" but I do know that Neil has had 29 x 1st Federation wins since 2017 YB season competing in an average of 15 races a season - and he uses the drops every week
Now I'm sure Neil attributes his success to more than just yellow drops - but he certainly relies and trusts them
This year he turned his attention to the NRCC with devastating effect - he's a clever boy is our little cockney and I rely on his help and advice a lot
The yellow drops are about the only thing Jellema gives a favorably mention to when you watch his interview on pigeon pixels which I found quite interesting as, as I'm sure you know, Jellema only does the vaccinations, treats for worms and cankers for 5 days in early May. Never uses anything else for the rest of the year so the fact he spoke well of the yellow drops did grab my attention.
It was Frank who put me onto Tim, Anthony. I bought my sprint / middle distance stock birds from Tim. Quite a set-up he has there, eh.Anthony webster wrote: Sun Oct 05, 2025 6:37 am I met Frank at Tim atkins he's great fella we stay in touch regularly the things Frank gets right are important body weight ,he talks sence one thing Frank's birds didn't do they don't trap brilliant think it was the hawks but racing in uk and where he lives now in florida you can't loose 20 secs to 1 min on the trap and win ,for me trapping is as important as body weight ,
