I don't think all the damage is done in the race I think it's the temperature marking night and on the lorry I see a thing about 6,8 weeks ago a clubs crates were reading 36 Celsius in the shade so the club cancelled not the fed I see the photo of it ,,imagine 28 baby's in that crate ate 36 that's about 100 degrees so there be cooked ,I think like in other countries rpra must stand in below 90 everyone races above its cancelled for everyone,,
North East wind don't stop good birds never has but heat will stop them definitely in uk where its hot a handful times a year the birds just ain't use to it.

As you say Ant the birds are not used to heat. But unless we start racing in it they never will be. Birds race around the World in very hot countries, not just sprint races 500/800 miles. In India they race in 40C+ They say this weather will be the nom in the future, so we and the birds will have to get used to it.
Some changes will HAVE to be made to the transport. These state of the art modern transporters will have to go along with the alloy crates (these do NOTHING for the birds, they are just lighter and easier to clean) LESS birds in a basket. This should be easy to put in place, most transporters are half empty. Seen loads with all the birds in a handful of baskets to make it easier for the Fed to handle.
WATER on crates at marking, my old club has done this for years, but I bet not all clubs do it.

All I know about animals is the days you find ya self sweating even when ya just having a lazy day it's best to leave the birds alone ,,iv cracked on in the heat trained n topped feds in real hot weather but they was tough tough days only super conditioned birds do well anything weak or underlying there gone ,
If lads want to race in it let them race but don't blame the conveyer, race controller,,look in the mirror because if it goes wrong your to blame ,,if in doubt miss the race out ,,now we race for club cards no money so I value a pigeon alot more than a 60p prize card.

I get what you're saying Anthony, but surely it is only the best that you want left at the end of the season, in which case they need to be pushed to the extreme.
I keep pigeons because I love the birds, good or bad, I would class myself as a homer rather than a racer which is why I'm not often at the top from the sprint races. I hate losing my birds and won't send a bird that I don't think has any chance of making it home, this is why I have far too many birds that don't race
However if I didn't push those that do race I'd be like Trafalgar square here, I'd rather lose them on the road than have to make those horrible choices at the end of the season.

Exactly my sentiment Trev but even though I have been spouting on about testing the birds- I havent sent this week because mine have YBS.
In anycase, its not even been that hot here and over most of the country so I dont know how they can justify cancelling races.
Be good to know what returns were like for thosr that could race.....

I only raced 1 season with bbc and it was a pleasure to race with them fantastic club,
Every one I know had shocking race yesterday north rd and south rd absolutely shocking so my opinion the club got it absolutely spot on ,,today was a better day but heard of lads in Yorkshire middle route with still a quarter of team missing .

Best race of season up here yesterday basically 100% returns. But it's not exceptionally hot and yes the wind is east but light
