Thanks Worm - I hope you are well mate.
Even though you agree that my training is adequate at best - I have still lost over half my young bird team, that's why I think there is something else going on.
I can't explain why my first 2 birds last week havn't turned in this week.?
Got to be something else rather than simply poor preparation by a few members.

My local clubs had their first YB race yesterday from Grantham 71 miles, and from the result it will be the last for a few. Just 7 birds from 3 clubs were over a 1000 ypm. One lad sent 39 and his first bird was flying 3hrs 52 for a vel of 490 ypm and he was only flying 64 miles.

What do you think went wrong. It wasn’t the weather, don’t think Ant is far wrong ill prepared birds bred from substandard stock? From day one we always made sure that our YBs were fuelled to cope if they made a mistake as well

Unsure about yesterday north rd here they fell in south rd was awful for the lads ,,again iv seen this season north rd awful and south rd fall in so I just have no idea what's going on.

Dave I fill for you pal I'm not a baby racer any more I don't like the first 3,4 races with baby's, now I only private train my baby's will get them on a transporter midweek a few times n then drive n liberate mine with a massive convoy going some where else in prep for the future,,

Now days the sickness n fat eye about just sickens me.

I'm surprised more fanciers aren't doing the same Ant. In my last 5 seasons racing I can count on one hand the number of Young birds I lost private training. But when I sent them to the race 100% healthy they always went down with YBS the following week. I tried missing the first few races and starting them at around 117 miles. Returns were better but they still came back with YBS. If I ever raced again which in unlikely I too would never race a Young birds again.

Im not sure about regulations in the Uk but in germany this concept would be hard if not impossible to be done. I could be wrong here but to my knowledge the transporter has to arrive atleast 5-6 hours before releasing the pigeons at the race point. Which would mean if they leave at 6am and be there at 8am The pigeons wouldnt be allowed to be released until 2pm which is just way to late.

One thing that hasn’t been mentioned is the weather, if you’re at the racepoint the night before or very early on race day, you have most of the day to mAke the best of the weather or would some take a risk?

people doing nothing different to say 10 years ago and they wernt like it is now so whats new its not us or birds its external interference on the birds I think but why is some ok i can't tell you but why arnt they making there way is that why half the small bird population not around and half the swifts and swollows are they getting lost migrating there something but what I say digital signals have gone up 1000's of percent and think it messes with their homing signals but I'll be prepared to be shot down just my opinion its not just us its worldwide which tell a story

This is my point BB. I don't send my young birds to win and I feed them to get them home. My birds went fit and healthy and the ones that are back have come back fit and healthy- no signs of YBS or fat eye. So I dont understand why there are such losses.
I can understand why ppl don't send babies, I am having to consider the same thing due to diminishing numbers
but that's not how it should be. I've been looking forward to yb racing and after just 2 short races I am considering stopping what I have left. No good to me, no good to the club and no good to the fed.

There are no restrictions on how long transporters have to be at the race point here in the UK. Racing on the same day is only possible on short races due to time constraints. You basket early morning and race in the afternoon. The vast majority of Open races are run this way. 2pm isn't late if you are racing 120 miles or under.
