I had another problem today, the pipe to the tap in the back garden developed a leak. I phoned our local plumber, Jimmy ( Devo has met him ), and he came and replaced a joint.
While chatting to him, Jim likes a chat, I said I was building a new pigeon loft, and said I would like to run the water out to it. Not hard, he reckoned.
We got talking about racing pigeons, how you teach them to race home, that sort of thing.
I wandered over to the shed, picked up the big Grizzle Thone' cock and took him out to show Jimmy. The grizzle just rested in my hand, all silver grey and shining in the sun. Then I stood him on my hand and he flew across the garden and back in the loft.
Jimmy was amazed! Wow!
These days we face some strong opposition from the animal rights loonies. And people listen to them
I think we do well to take the opportunity to show people that the birds are not abused or neglected.

Had the same myself when speaking to people who think they are flying rats etc, totally converted when leaving them they are in awe at the things and distances they do etc

My missus use to work in the local pre-school and once a year used to take a basket of birds in for the kids to see and touch and liberate.
She retired last year and just the other day the manager came and asked if she would go back and do it again this year.
We only live 5 mins away so I said to her why not march the kids along to see the birds come in as well.
So thats what we are doing for 'bird day'

Unfortunately, its the only time she does anything with the birds. The rest of the time she dont get involved at all. Tbh. She'd have them gone tomorrow if she could.
But the women at the pre-school and the mums think its marvellous.
