Slugs! 🤢

Hey all!

There's been some great discussions on here of late! So I thought I ask some advice!

I have been told that getting slugs in the loft can cause problems in the birds!

I believe they are carriers of hair worm and the likes?

So what do you do to keep on top of them and keep them out of your lofts?

My shed about a foot high so I don’t ever get them inside
My mother who was a keen gardener use to use copper tape around her pots or certain ones . I remember her doing it for a while but I’m not sure if she was just trying it or it actually worked
She used to put something in a jar or can that they would be tempted with then drowned in the liquid but I’m not sure what it was

Neil i get them inside my lofts and even on the roof of it

Afternoon Neil, I think that would of been beer M8 in the pots seen it done on gardening programmes, copper tape, on the outside of the pots & also with Hosta plants etc covered the drain hole in the bottom of pots with fine gauge nylon netting so slugs can't get in from the bottom, maybe netting is the answer if they are getting in door window vents etc.

Is the loft bone dry on the floor

Don't mean in the loft Neil sorry, I meant on the garden every morning basically get a shovel full up

I also used the slug traps you put in the ground used to be full every day

I tried putting a couple of tubs of salt all round the shed which probably stopped some entering but it also stopped the ones that were already in there from getting out.

Similar issue to me, my loft is up in the air on railway sleepers, but underneath that is a concrete courtyard, so it's always full of the slimy f*ckers!

Had a few beer traps out over the last year or so, but despite seeing less of them about, I still see the trails in the loft every now and then!

Most from the aviary windows, which are open all year round admittedly!

Would of thought they would affect chickens the same as anything else, when I had chickens back in the 70s would never eat there eggs myself just used to sell them
