Looks a bit tricky Saturday
Every year it’s the same we breed to many because we no we are going to batted I myself decided not to race young birds so I’ve trained them up to 35 miles so I might be lucky I’ve got a good team for next year but they haven’t had a race but well schooled a member said the sun and moon were out together yesterday but I never noticed let’s hope some make it home today
I asked Bill to explain why his theory didn't explain how 2 Feds close together could have very different races. The UK from the Sun is a very small area, if the K Index did effect pigeon racing it would effect EVERY Fed in the UK. But it doesn't. Yesterdays K Index was very low at just over 2. (9 being very high).Andy wrote: Sun Aug 11, 2024 8:19 amThe late Bill Cowell, Bilco, mentioned the solar flares many times several years ago. He used to write for the pigeon journals. He lived just around the corner from me in later life and I spoke to him on several occasions regarding this. I wasn’t racing myself at the time though.Murray wrote: Sat Aug 10, 2024 10:50 pm Now that, my friends, is very interesting.
Half a world away, the Bendigo Invitation club raced with the Central highlands Combine again.
An absolute shocker.
Same race point, same pigeons, clear day. Pigeons missing everywhere. David had 20 arrive in the first bunch. Only 3 of them were his. He was well down by last night and a couple of blokes got none.
Apparently there is a a lot of solar flare activity. I have never given much notice to it, but it's a hell of a coincidence that the pigeons are losing their compass on both ends of the earth on the same day.
Some more investigation is required I think.
My local club 3 sent 18 from Coventry up Friday (Same K Index number 2.2 as yesterday) the winner there made 1419. The other York club 2/27 the winner made 1509 and same lad was 1st & 2nd Barkstone Ash Fed 22/346. The Fed top 30 were 1509 to 1285 looked like a decent race.NeilA wrote: Sun Aug 11, 2024 1:30 pm What can it be King
Club sent 180 about 100 home at 6pm
100’s missing in Liverpool
Racing two different routes on different sides of the country
So although a different day, it wasn't the K Index to blame.
It's a small Fed over a decent area. Whilst your right it's not a trapping match, it's a decent race compared to what the Fed and other Feds have been having.NeilA wrote: Sun Aug 11, 2024 1:53 pmSorry kingking wrote: Sun Aug 11, 2024 1:42 pmMy local club 3 sent 18 from Coventry up Friday (Same K Index number 2.2 as yesterday) the winner there made 1419. Is that right 1509 to 1285 ? You said a decent race
That’s a awful drop in velocity for 30 birds

There are only 3 types of YB race. Excellent, Decent or Disaster.

That's good racing. But you can't just compare different locations like for like. A fancier could have a pack drop together which would reduce the vel between 1st & 30 or 40. The number of birds sent makes a difference, like wise the number of members sending.MIL wrote: Sun Aug 11, 2024 2:32 pm Worcester Fed Blandford
Lib 2:30
3,128 birds went
1st Fed 1700 40th Fed 1641 (A gap of 4 min 5 secs for 40 birds)
My local Fed is less than a 3rd of the Worcester Fed. The gap between the first 30 the week before was over a 100 yds less. I stand by what I said, for MY area the race yesterday was a decent race. I've seen Fed results in the past of large Feds that have had a bad race but you wouldn't have said it from the Fed result.
