Andy. When I have had the odd pigeon with a supposedly good pedigree I have generally been disappointed with their performances. My best pigeons over the years both breeding and racing have come from a mixture of pigeons selected from my own loft from birds that I have tested. It’s not always the ones you think will be good either.

Totally get the hope is like race horses the blood comes through but just seems that big names even further back in the ped are important than say UK actual winners at the front of the ped

Neil, i keep saying we all have different views on each subject. and that is your view. Many people dont look at a pedigree, they may be fancy names in the sport. But the sport has moved on, and so it should.
It would be great to buy a bird very close to the tree, but that comes at a price. A price that some cannot afford, so i like to think outside the box. And look for something of value for some, i have spent money in the past.
On good quality birds, and had great joy in breeding. But those days have gone, so what joy i get now. i would say it is different to some other members. You seek, you like and you buy.

I have birds in my loft that cost 4k and upwards each best birds I have are either home bred or gifted birds and bred down from them
