As the title suggests I had two races again this weekend.
I had a team of 8 over in Guernsey (131mls) with the BICC and had 18 birds at Yeovil (95mls) with the South coast federation, both organisations liberated at 6.45am in good conditions and a light North wind. The wind at home for me was a fairly blustery North easterly so I didn't expect the birds to be being much more than 40mph, the winners of the BICC were always going to be over in the west of the country which turned out to be the case but were much faster than I thought they'd be with the winning bird doing 1486ypm. The strange thing about this race is that provisionally there were only 4 birds out of the 5000 liberated doing those velocities before the velocities dropped into the 1200s, again there were some outstanding performances with the Northern fliers recording good results and there was even one brave bird in the first 40 that made it into the most Easterly section. My first bird was my second bird from the last Guernsey and he is provisionally 125th section 330th open doing 915ypm, although that is again well behind the leaders most of the birds timed around my area were on very similar velocities so I was fairly pleased and to make things even better I did get all 8 home
The South coast fed birds were always going to be kept down on the coast because of the wind and again that proved to be the case, the winner in our club once again was Mr & Mrs May and son who took the first 6 again in club and fed doing 1627ypm which is much faster than I expected. My first bird was also a bit quicker than I thought but again not quick enough lol, I was 44th club doing 1357ypm and I was the 11th member out of the 17 who sent so an improvement there lol
Oakhampton next week so a little further
