I was on 12hr nights last year watching them time in at 01:00, 02:00 and 03:00 in the Marseille race
These birds were having like 19 hrs plus on the wing

You might say ‘they have the terrain’ but very few birds are gallant enough to stick that time on the chin

We touched on "hours on the wing" on another thread recently

Made me cast my mind back to this race from Marseilles

The Dutch were timing in in this race at 01:00, 02:00, 03:00 etc in the morning, with some of the pigeons having 19 hrs + on the wing

Now, flat terrain or not, it's some balls to keep going for 19 hrs

I have a good friend who is on very good terms with Rieks Lonsaine from Holland. He won the international from Marseille a couple of years back with a bird called Blue Lucy. ( I have 2 hens in my stock shed that are from the Rieks loft and are loosely related to Blue Lucy - 1 from my good friend and 1 with great thanks to Charlton( Dave) off here)
My mate Jim has visited the Lonsaine lofts and swapped babies with him on a couple of occasions.
He said that the lofts are totally set up for night time clocking with the lofts in the middle of a field and the whole field has lights all over it. Must be like a beacon to the birds coming home.

The terrain is only flat towards the finish line, plenty of hills on route. I’ve a friend who lives in Germany but on the boarder so he can fly in the ZLU and he tells me they get night flyers every year although not many. He won best marathon pigeon at the olympiad in 2014 ( I think) and twice that year he timed birds in during the early hours of the morning. Remarkable because he lives in a very rural location so no lights to follow.
