At what age did members have their first encounter with pigeons?
Some of our old members would probably have seen this photo.

This is me with mine and Trev’s dad. I was born in 1962 so probably taken in 1963 at about a year old. 🙂🙂.
Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.

I think I was about 6 when I first saw pigeons on the platform at Christchurch railway station, waiting to go on the train. Fell for them on the spot.
My father built a little which I filled with anything I could find.
It was many years before I had my first racing pigeons.

As with brother Andy I obviously grew up with pigeons around, as soon as we were big enough we both used to help Dad out with the birds. I used to enjoy helping to clean out the birds and going to the Club with Dad, we used to love sitting up stairs on Race days (as we weren't allowed in the garden lol) watching for the birds to arrive. Out of five of us it's only Andy and I who really got involved in the birds and in time we were both allowed to have little sheds and our own birds in the garden, that made for a bit of fun on race days lol 😬🤣😂

I was 10 (1976) when i badgered my dad to start keeping them, we had a flyer over the road that got me interested my dad had West of Englands as a kid, so we got permission off the council (a lot easier in those days) and got birds from here there and everywhere (a big mistake) we joined the Redditch Premier who flew in the Bham & Dist Saturday Fed, one of our members was non other than the great "King" Jack Adams. I ended up being the Chief Clocksetter at the ripe old age of 13 lol, my mom hated the birds but eventually mellowed and she ended up being Secretary of different clubs for over 30 years. We loved every minute of it but sadly we had to get rid of the birds after 35 years of racing and yes i miss them every day.
