Hey all,

Have decided to go back to college in July. Albeit for a 5 day intensive course at Plumpton agricultural college. Obviously gin would have been good but with everyone else's profit margins there wasn't enough left for me.

My very first taste of the industry was doing a feasibility study on setting up an English vineyard back in college. Circa 2005/6. Since then I've tried contracting to make wine and setting up an allotment vineyard. Both failed as didn't have the skills.

So I'm off to do a viticulture (vine growing) course. With the long term aim of having my own vineyard after I've done the course and got some practical experience, helping out on a local vineyard near me.

Not sure I'd ever make the wine. I know pinot noir grapes, even with an excellent harvest last year, were like hens teeth. And chardonnay they wanted £1,500 a ton. So could just be more the growing.

It's the less "sexy" side of wine. The wine making course is sold out whereas the vine growing course still has 16 places...

Cheers Andy. I've got a meeting with the Richmond fellowship to see if they can help me get the practical side sorted. They specialise in helping those with Aspergers and mental health difficulties.
