Was going through some old photos yesterday and came across these.
The first one is our Dad's loft and the second is Andy outside his first loft which was next to Dad's :D

Great couple of photos Bruv. That would have been about 1980. They were fun days racing in the same garden. I see I had them friendly even back in those days. Not sure that they were fed peanuts then Les. A lot of my early birds were given to me by Tony Smith from Portslade nr Brighton. He was the milk tanker driver that used to pick up the milk from the farm I worked on after leaving school. I used to go to his house on my motorbike and come back with a few in a box on the back of the bike.

Yes Buster it is similar. Dads had a sloping corrugated asbestos roof, where as mine now has an apex roof and mine now has all Perspex front rather than wire, but other than that very similar with the front bay.
My loft there was made out of scraps lol. The roof was fibreglass sheets and the door an old front door off a house. The nest boxes and perches were made from broken down pallets that I got from the farm.

That is the way most of us started in them days, my first loft was old doors with a tarpaulin sheet for roof and as you say old pallets, we got ours from the slab factory down the road, good old days when life was much easier and simpler
