### Race calculations

Whilst at the clubhouse this morning I was watching the velocity calculations and amongst the general chaos and p@#s taking it was rather hard to follow what was going on. Could someone explain ( slowly) how results are calculated from the beginning, I. e miles into sixtieths etc. I'm sure other beginners would be interested in how this is done.

Thanks. That makes it easy.

The velocity is distance, divided by, time. To work out a velocity you first need to know the distance from the race point to the loft. Example 125mls 1075 yds. You then convert the miles into yards. There are 1760 yds to a mile. So 125 mls would be 220000 yds, then add the yards, 1075, equals a total of 221075 yds. This then is converted into sixtieths 221075 x 60 = 13264500 sixtieths. Then this is divided by the time taken, which has to be converted into seconds. Let's say it takes 2 hrs 54 mins and 12 sec to complete the above distance. First take the 2 hours and convert into minutes, = 120 then add the minutes + 54 = 174 x 60 to get the seconds 10440 + the 12 secs = 10452 seconds total flying time. All you have to do then is divide the distance 13264500, by the time 10452. This gives you a velocity of 1269.08 ypm. Hope this is helpful to anyone who is interested.
