Don’t know what to think about this yearling hen of Dev’s and Chris’s in the Barcelona team.

A lovely looking and handling hen.
She was well trained early on last year as a youngster but then went missing off the loft. I assumed at the time that she had probably been taken by a hawk. If you remember she then turned back up 7 weeks later, just before racing, but wasn’t raced due to having just returned. She moulted out well and had been out all the time.
Well back on the 1st of December she disappeared. I was surprised and wondered what had happened to her. Maybe being caught by a cat or hawk.
The pigeons are still out on a regular basis and have been today. When I shut the loft up this evening I had an extra one, this hen 56 was back, 24 days after going missing. She still looks well and handles well.
I am totally baffled by her. Where ever has she been and what has she been doing. What she is going to be like come racing I don’t know. Although she might take a long time I think she will turn up eventually

She looks like a distance bird, maybe she is doing her homework ready for racing, good birds keep themselves in good nick, and she looks
Like she that type.

Never known a wondering pigeon make a good racer especially a hen
Cock possible as there away looking for hens but if this hens wondering like that wouldn’t take much for her to go down and settle somewhere else if the going gets tough hens need love for home to put that extra in for distance racing

Hi John, I had a young hen in South Arica 1million dollar olr,, She was the same coming back late in races, many times thought she was gone. She made it to the final and returned, was then sold in a auction and the owner tracked us down. to tell me she had breed a winner over there. I agree they need to love their home, so some motivation need pair up and race to eggs and young. But that is up to Andy.

That’s different a pigeon coming late from racing no problem most of my good distance birds are late till they hit the mark
But disappearing off loft top for weeks at a time for me would be unacceptable firstly you’ve no idea what it’s coming back with and could you count on a pigeon like that

I agree with Buster

Looking at that hen, I reckon it's been in a loft somewhere. Maybe the same one as when it first went missing.

I would imagine it will vanish again at some point. ;)

I agree with what’s been said.
Funny thing is when she came back during the summer it looked as though she had been out. Considering the weather we have had lately I don’t know that she stayed out this time.
With this venture, and certainly at this stage, all pigeons will be given the chance to prove themselves one way or another. Part of my job with this is to keep all members informed on what’s happening within the loft. No pigeon will get preferential treatment though and a ? Must go against her. She will be just left with the others to do what the rest do for now. I will get her paired up in the spring and hope that she doesn’t mess about again and see how she goes in training and hopefully racing next year.
